Posted October 17, 200321 yr ok I am writing this because I finally just realized what I watched two nights ago. And Pudge named NLCS MVP, breaks record for RBI in a series, hit over .500 with RISP, so on and so on... What do you think he will be asking for next year. I really do have faith that the Marlins will do anything they can to resign him, but do you think he will leave So. Fla and team mates that it is obvious he really likes? I mean after that performance he is THE BEST FREE AGENT on the market, and could possibly bring in a ARod type salary. I don't think that the fish could afford that. I don't expect a firesell or anything just what do you think about this... also I know its great for Pudge to do what he's done in the post season, especially sense he was considered washed up and all, but do you guys kinda wish that it would have been someone who we have in a long term contract to have done what he did and Pudge play more like Lowell...good, but not OUT OF THIS WORLD GOOD? your thoughts.
October 17, 200321 yr He won't get an A-Rod type salary. A-Rod couldn't get an A-Rod salary if he was a free agent tomorrow. I'm thinking around $25-$27 million for 3 years. It's the 3 years that we probably can't commit to. Especially when you figure in the $7 million we still owe him from this year's contract. There's a better chance today that we'll keep him than at any point this season but it's still not a real good bet. Right now, I'm not worrying about it and I don't think Pudge is either.
October 17, 200321 yr Author don't get me wrong Im not worried about it either, and im positive Pudge isn't either. I was just wandering if you think Pudge will take a pay cut to play in his home with these guys. My best friend while I was play college baseball was a catcher, and he wasn't only a Pudge fan he actually tried to be him lol. I watched them alot, and he didn't seem to act the way he has this year. I mean its SO obvious that he is having the time of his life playing for this team. I wouldn't fault him for leaving for money, he deserves it...in the way baseball is going these days anyway. Will he be one of the first if not the first that realizes "Hey Im allready rich, my great great grandchildren are set for life, I don't need 30 million more. I think I could get by on $15."
October 17, 200321 yr lol are u all smoking crack? he has been worth all 10 mill this year but at the time was over paid..he will on the free market draw no more than 9 mill a year...and he has alerady said he would take less to stay in florida so he would be gettin about 8 or 8.5 here...his numbers threw the year wont get him 10 he only hit 297. 18 hr 85 rbi...those arent 10 mill numbers but his playoff performance will get him about 9...lol u all that said alex rod numbers should slap urslefs cuz u need to get some baseball knowledge.
October 17, 200321 yr lol are u all smoking crack? ..he will on the free market draw no more than 9 mill a year yeah, because $25-$27 million over 3 years is nothing like $9 million a year.
October 17, 200321 yr every single day i'm feeling like we have a better chance at keeping Pudge-he looks so happy out there.
October 17, 200321 yr Author lol are u all smoking crack? ..he will on the free market draw no more than 9 mill a year yeah, because $25-$27 million over 3 years is nothing like $9 million a year. actually I think 3 x 9 is actually 105 million... lol I may smoke crack, but at least I know my times tables. :whistle
October 17, 200321 yr I keep hearing that he's staying. I am crossing my fingers. It's obvious he really loves this team.
October 17, 200321 yr Author sheff#1 said "his numbers threw the year wont get him 10 he only hit 297. 18 hr 85 rbi..." sorry I had to ask for something else... You have to remember this guy is a GREAT deffensive, and also a very very good offensive catcher! I would like you to list all the catchers in the league that are in truth the total package.
October 17, 200321 yr Author sorry about 3 seperate posts...you also have to look at his leadership, clutchness in the post season, he has good speed, and he handles his pitching staff perfectly. so many intangeables to mention.
October 17, 200321 yr I keep hearing that he's staying. I am crossing my fingers. It's obvious he really loves this team. He'll be back in my opinion. He could have got more than 10 mill last year, but went to florida because of his house in Miami. This team is good with a bright future, and he doens't need a ton of money, so I think he's going to stay with the Fish.
October 17, 200321 yr again, we will know what type of person Pudge really is, in the offseason It really depends on what type of offer the Marlins give him. If he can make 12-15/year on the open market, the Marlins should offer anywhere between 15% to 20% discount to that. If they offer him 5 to 7 million, I want to know what the heck the FO is smoking. Whatever his decision is, I don't think we should judge his personal ethics/integrity. He has always play hard no matter where he is and is deserving of every penny of that 10mill contract. In addition, he is a professional ballplayer and is entitled to make what players of his caliber should make on the open market.
October 17, 200321 yr if they offer more than $7mil, I would be shocked.... especially with him making an extra $3mil in in 04 and 05
October 17, 200321 yr Author I can see 7 mil for a 3 year deal. I couldn't fault him for leaving and making some more cash, but gosh I just hope he freaking breaks the cycle of players leaving small market teams for the yanks, redsox, or the other 5 teams that can actually afford to keep a great team together.
October 17, 200321 yr If Pudge stays then i think we can make it to the WS next year also! I hope we keep him! GO Pudge! Go Marlins!
