No joke I grew up in Somerset NJ. This was THE place back in the 80's. Used to go all the time.

 

Besides Six Flags Great Adventure and Sesame Street Place.

Yeah - I used to live right over the border in NY and worked there for a summer. Fracture Park [as we called it] has been closed for a while now. In addition to the tarzan swing, alpine slide [you basically slid down a concrete track on a skateboard], grand prix race cars, and cannonball waterslide [that shot you out about 12 feet over the water] you saw in the commercial, they also had cliff diving, bungee jumping, this sky dive simulator called an aero dome, and for a while they had the Gauntlet from American Gladiator. The place was awesome and I knew so many people that worked there that I NEVER paid to get in and spent three summers there in HS. The down side was that at least one of your friends was guarenteed to leave with something broken or skin missing. I crashed my broken alpine cart at some crazy speed one and got the worst road rash ever. I had to go to the hospital to have melted nylon [from my Umbros of course] extricated from torn flesh on my @ss cheek. It was not pretty.

 

When I worked there, I had to put out fires almost every day on the Grand Prix race track. I also had to tow smashed boats from our race boat area and pull people out of the water constantly. I know we averaged something crazy like 9 deaths per year [usually broken neck].

Upon further review I was reminded of another thing - the water there was spring fed and was ALWAYS balls cold! Even in the middle of August you were lucky if the water temperature crept much over 55! So, if you used the tarzan swing, you would hit icy cold water, then have to swim between 60 and 70 meters to the ladder while battling hypothermia.

Bradcore you are right, Action Park was the coolest place ever.

 

I went there about 15 times when I was younger.

 

 

Im proud to say I lost a lot of skin on the Alpine Slide (Riders were brought to the top on a ski lift! How cool) They had a beginners, novice and expert track on the Alpine Slide. The expert was the sh*t. So dangerous and so fun.

 

If I remember right, there were 2 cliff dives and the higher one was REALLY high. Near the cliff diving area they had this big tube that you could get like 4-6 ppl on.......such a riot. :dkdance

 

 

yankeefan is right, when you left that place w/ your buddies everyone was sunburnt and at least one guy broke sometype of bone somewhere and at least 2 guys wiped out on the Alpine Slide and had the 2nd degree burns to show for it.
