protocall for tropical storms/hurricanes

Featured Replies

Ok folks, this is not meant to scare anyone, but with TD 4 looming way out in the Atlantic, and a Marlins game scheduled Monday at 1:05, there is a slim chance things could get dicey. Right now the Hurricane center has the storm about 3 or 4 days away from Miami on Sunday (The last day of the cone), so my question is more or less IF a hurricane watch or warning was to be issued for South Florida, what is the protocall for the game? Like I said, it is EXTREMELY unlikely that this storm effects the game, but I was just curious as to what would happen in that case.

Thanks

Usually when a storm is about 24 - 48 hours away the team and league will announce the first game canceled and after that every game is canceled until the league feels its safe to play. This is wat happened with Wilma.

CT...if the area is under a tropical storm/hurricane warning the game would be postponed or conceivably moved(doubtful).

The storm is due to be in the vicinity of Puerto Rico(give or take 200 miles) on Sunday. If, and that's a big if, IF the storm did wind up coming towards this area it would arrive Wednesday or Thursday. It's way too early to tell. The storm could stay out to sea(unlikely), or hit the US anywhere from Brownsville Texas to New England.

For those so inclined WeatherUnderground.com is a good site for detailed info.

MLB will accomodate the issue on a case-by-case basis.

Doubleheaders, moving the game, postponing, moving up....playing the game on tiebreaker day at the end of the season.

do marlins have backup home site if hurricane hit and dolphins stadium is damage ?

Case-by-case thing.....St. Petersburg or Atlanta (depending on scheduling) would be if Dolphin Stadium were totally leveled. But mostly they would do like they did in Chicago with home games being played at the opponent.

I would imagine we would be sharing someone's ball park. Roger Dean is not an option. But serious damage to Joe Robbie? Kinda doubt you ever see that. The place is built solidly. I personally have questions about those big boards sustaining anything over a Cat 2 head on. But I did ask once and was informed that they could take much more than that. Even all the new glass is of the hurricane resistant type.

Back a few years ago when we here in PB and Martin Counties took Francis and Jeanne head on in that 2 week span, Roger Dean Stadium sustained minimal damage. The big light poles came down (since been upgraded), one landed on the corner of one of the buildings, some roof tiles from the main building were lost, and I believe the picnic area sustained some damage. But pretty much it was left in nice shape. And when we got the eye of Wilma no structural damage was noted there. Joe Robbie is built far better for that type thing.
