Pettite

Featured Replies

Andy Pettite isn't always the most reliable arm to have on the mound in the postseason. He has a tendency to start letting the pressure get the best of him. He usually ends up overthrowing, which leads to bad control, which leads to early exit. The Yankees bullpen hasn't exactly been rock solid, so I would not be upset to see Pettite gone in the 3rd or 4th. Heredia and Nelson are relieable relievers, but if you use Nelson two days in a row he probably won't be available for the third game, which would horribly weaken the Yanks 'pen. If Pettite exits early, we will probably see either Contreras, who blew game 6 of the NLCS, or Weaver, who TSN called a 'human pitching machine' when they named the UN-All Stars.

Good feeling about goin' up 2-0 :thumbup

3 days rest...I really think we should be able to get to him. Going home 2-0 with Beckett on the mound in Game 3 would be terrific, but now I'm starting to sound like a Cubs fan. Let's just win tomorrow.

Pettite scares me, especially with his ability to kill the running game.

Anything we do in game two is just a bonus. We already took all the meat off the bone by winning game one up there.

God, I wish I was a fly on the wall of a #4 train going back into Midtown right now so I could listen to the tears and whines.

so wut do u guys believe are our honest chances tomm? yea they have wut some of u are saying a possible "inconsistant" arm in petette(sp?), but we got redman who didnt really pitch a gem in game 7 of the NLCS. i just hope he comes through like penny did and throws a strong 6-7 innings allowing hopefully the most 2 runs MAYBE 3 depending how well were hitting tomm.

Blah Blah Blah, all I hear is insecurity. Always have to be negative.

A few stats regarding SBs allowed by Yankee starters:

- Mussina appears to be the toughest with 9 SB allowed, but 10 CS.

- Pettitte allowed 13 SB and only 1 CS! The ESPN stats must not include pickoffs in CS. (Either that or the hype about Pettitte's pickoff move is unearned!)

- Wells allowed 16 SB with 5 CS.

- Clemens allowed 20 SB, while they caught 8 stealers.

What jumped out at me as significant is that Pettitte's ERA during day games this year is 2.43, while it doubles to 4.83 in night games!! (I'd add the appropriate emoticon here, but I'm a brand new poster!)

GO MARLINS!

More good news for Marlins vs. Pettitte:

432Juan is 10 for 22 lifetime!

Pudge is hitting .394 lifetime!

Even the maligned Sea Bass is at .333, but I will admit that is with only 3 AB. :p

Although Juan Pierre has not faced Pettitte, the splits show that lefties hit .320 this year against Pettitte!!

I just wanna know how this clown was 21-8!

Blah Blah Blah, all I hear is insecurity. Always have to be negative. im not trying to be negative, i just wanted to hear different opinions on wut the marlins chances are in game two thats all nothing more nothing less

i agree my post sounds a bit insecure but im not the one playing so who cares right? im just a fan whos always shaky. i mean look how close todays game was!i have no nails left. i have a right to be a bit insecure, but im always like that i guess i cant help it...

The crack FOX team announced during tonight's game that Pettitte picked off exactly ZERO runners this year. 67 pickoffs since 1995, but zero this year. They attribute that to the AL runners finally smartening up and taking shorter leads. Right. Took them 8 years to wise up to that move. I buy that. NOT.

I guess Pettitte did alright under all that pressure. :mischief2

Seriously, Andy is money in big game situations, as you just saw. Pettitte has also lived and died by the infield defense because he gets tons of ground outs when he pitches.

As far as his pick off move goes, he didn't pick anyone off this year. Why? Who knows, but he DOES have the most pickoffs in the majors since 95 - almost DOUBLE the next closest who has 38 in that same time period. So, I wouldn't say his reputation is "unearned," just that runners were much more selective about the situations they chose to steal in.

Anyway, awesome game. See ya tomorrow.
