Aaron Boone Done

News & Notes

Boone's season over: Marlins third baseman Aaron Boone said on Saturday that he will have season-ending arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on Sept. 4.

Boone, who has been on the disabled list since June 25 with a left knee sprain, signed a one-year $925,000 contract with the Marlins in December.

At the time of the injury, Boone was batting .286 with five home runs and 28 RBIs in 69 games.

"It's frustrating because I felt like I had a minor injury," Boone said.

According to Boone, the procedure will be performed by Dr. Timothy Kremchek of Beacon Orthopedic in Cincinnati. Kremchek is the medical director for the Reds, with whom Boone played seven seasons.

"It was good to see him," said Boone of Kremchek. "I feel like I've got some answers. I know what to expect. It's a matter of getting scoped and getting on a rehab program."

Boone, who missed the entire 2004 season after having surgery on the same knee, feels he still has a few productive years remaining in his big-league career.

"I was playing well at the time of the injury," Boone said. "I have a pretty good outlook on things. I'm still playing for the right reasons. Going into this year, I was taking it one year at a time. I'm looking forward to playing next year."

Boone was solid in the time he played. There won't be much of a market for him with another surgery. Think he'll be back? I'd take him.

This pretty much spoils our playoff hopes.

You made me laugh, even after tonight's loss. Thanks.

Will he even be ready for 2008? He missed all of 2004 with knee surgery, though he also had surgery about half a year later then then he will now.
