2007 US Open

Featured Replies

That's what Santoro does... he overplays everything. I have a friend of mine I used to play with who is still in the doubles draw at the US Open; Tripp Phillips. He has played Santoro a couple times and lost all 3 times, but he tells me the top tier players always refer to him as the player you can always beat, but never want to play.

I love Santoro and the style he brings to the game.

I'm not really that big a fan of the 5th set tie break. Did this change in the last year or two? I feel like it used to be win by two in the 5th. This has been a fantastic 5th set.

The US Open has had the 5th set tiebreak since the 70's I believe. They never have extended 5th sets.

Oh yeah, and don't look now but Mardy Fish just fought off 2 match points to extend Robredo to a 5th set after a fantastic 4th set tiebreak. Also, Ginepri is up 2 sets... we could have 6 Americans in the 3rd round in about 30 minutes.

Djokovic looks like a robot here. Not showing any sort of emotion even after a good shot...

Down goes Safin

I love Safin, but he plays like he doesn't care anymore.

Up next for Djokovic: Juan Martin Del Potro. 18 year old teen phenom from Argentina, currently ranked #57 in the world. Also, youngest player in the top 100. 6'5" with a killer forehand. He's supposed to be the future of Argentine tennis. Hasn't really won any major tournaments, but oozes talent and potential.

Funny thing, at the French Open, his first round opponent was Rafa Nadal. At Wimbledon, it was Roger Federer. Talk about luck.

Agustin Calleri takes out Lleyton Hewitt!!!!!! 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-2!!!!!

Isner takes set one from Federer!!

Roddick won easy in 3 sets

And Federer promptly takes it back in the 2nd.

BTW is that bee in the Nasonex commercial Antonio Banderas?? They've been running that one ad nauseum during the Open.

Blake's serve is atrocious for the second straight match. He will be lucky to make it out of this one. Sets 1-1 but down 5-4 and a break in 3rd.

And he breaks back 5-5...this has been a bizarre match. Neither player can hold serve. Serve has been broken 14 times in 3 sets. Blake saves himself by winning the 3rd set tie break. 4th set was a breeze and he did look pretty good there. Haas is next.

Should be a great match tonight on Arthur Ashe after the ladies get done:

Juan Martin Del Potro

v.

Novak Djokovic

Really excited to see how Del Potro matches up with Djokovic, he hasn't dropped a set all tournament, his two wins have been comfortable straight setters.

the other majors have no 5th set tiebreak. i like the infinite final set myself.

I'm going to put a small bet on Del Porto tonight (+350)...with the way he's been playing I really think he can give Djokovic a run for his money especially after Djokovic was on the court for nearly 5 hours the other day.

With those odds, I don't think you can go wrong. Did the same thing here. He played lights out against Melzer and Mahut, who aren't champs, but at the same time aren't complete nobodies.

Whoooops haha. He got crushed. Oh well.

Roddick startin up in about 30 minutes and then Blake to follow. Good stuff. Both with pretty tough, but winable matches

Yeah he really showed that he was 18 last night. You could see the nerves at the beginning of the match. He started to turn it on, but it was waaaaaay too late. Oh well, put that one down as a lesson to be learned.

My prediction for Djokovic's next match, Juan Monaco takes him out. Monaco has been playing great tennis lately, won some tournaments this year, and has experience. He's a baller.

I saw the Djokovic score this morning and laughed because my first thought was you guys' bets. Also, here's hoping the Americans continue to push, I'd really really like to see Roddick put something together and win this thing (the Open, not just the match). Also, couldn't help but notice your Elon avatar, never noticed it before.... :mis2

haha ya...I didn't watch the match because I was at my sister's play, but looks like I'm glad I missed it.

And ya Elon. Been my avatar since I joined 3.5 years ago lol. Changed it maybe once for a couple days. Y'all shoulda destroyed us the other night, but from what I hear SoFla ran a very vanilla offense to not show Auburn anything. Very happy with the way our freshman QB and D played.

Kind of a side note, but if John McEnroe mentions one more time how he doesn't like it when players look at their coaches before determining whether to challenge I'm going to go insane. We know. You don't like it. Don't talk about it for 15 minutes every freaking time there is a challenge.
