September 9, 200718 yr You don't get Manager of the Year twice for being a bad manager. Joe Torre says "shows what you know" as he lights a fine Cuban cigar with a c-note.
September 9, 200718 yr I'd rather look at Treanor and Co then spend atleast $8mil per on Pudge You really think that gets us to the playoffs in '08 or '09? No, but I don't think Pudge is the answer either go spend that money on a CF and maybe something else

No, but I don't think Pudge is the answer either go spend that money on a CF and maybe something else I agree with Ramp on this one. I'd rather have a reasonably young CF than an aging catcher with his best years behind him. (though he still is better than most)
September 9, 200718 yr Yeah the .291 stuff is getting really tired and ponderous. We get it. My gut tells me that if Pudge comes back, it will light a spark under his a** and his numbers will improve (which would be a gigantic improvement over Mr.ICantCatchABaseball. But then again, my gut also told me that Michigan was going to destroy Oregon today so what the f*** do I know.

No, but I don't think Pudge is the answer either go spend that money on a CF and maybe something else I mean, just to look at it another way, he's slugging .422 this year. Now that's not a jaw-dropping total, but if you juxtapose that with NL catchers who have at least 200 AB's, that'd make him the 4th best catcher in the NL. To get "that" quality of centerfielder would take a heck of a lot of money. Now that's not to say that centerfield doesn't also need dramatic upgrading, just that Pudge could still be construed as an elite player given positional scarcity, and a relatively "affordable" one given age and expected decline. Just throwing that out there...
September 9, 200718 yr But, I also ask you this, would you rather have Pudge at $8 million (or thereabouts) LoDuca at $5 million, Piazza at $1 million (or thereabouts) or another year of Treanor/Olivo/Hoover/Hayes? Pudge at that price...no. Paulie at that price...yes. Piazza at any price...BIG NO. Let me rephrase that...HELL NO. The Paulie scenario is interesting. I didn't realize he was a FA after this year. But I think the Mets may lock him up to a bigger and better contract than that. Or am I exagerrating his importance to them?
September 9, 200718 yr The Mets don't like Lo Duca The two most likely scenerios is they trade for a young catcher or go with Ramon Castro
September 9, 200718 yr Has anyone here actually seen Pudge play more than a game or two this season? I know I haven't. I ask the question only because as we all know catchers get the livin' crap kicked out of them season after season and eventually it takes its toll. We all remember the Pudge of 2003 and maybe a glimpse last season in Detroit's run to the World Series, and I'm not questioning what he has left in the tank, because I don't know. Can anyone speak with some authority (closet Tigers fan out there perhaps???) about his overall play in 2007? On the face of it it's not the worst idea, but the first thing I think of when I think of negotiating with Pudge is Scott Boras, and I don't think I have to say more on that subject. Personally I'd be worried about a mutli-year deal but at the right price, and with the right terms, and without looking at who might also be available, sure go for it.
