Someone in this forum must know something about what's going on with the new stadium.

Lets assume that the downtown site is out, and the only site open for discussion is the OB site.

1. Who is going to cover the funding gap? Is the City of Miami going to do it alone with part of the funds originally intended for OB renovations, or are they demanding the county and team pitch in also, and how much?

2. Is the team (Loria) trying to negotiate a better deal now by pointing out that the agreement they had a few months ago was based on building the stadium at his preferred downtown site?

3. Is HOK still the firm that is designing the stadium? Is it similar to the one they made public when the plan was to build it next to the OB?

4. Is the cost still 490 million? If it has increased, is Loria changing the design to make sure it stays below that amount so he won't have to pay cost overruns?

5. When can we expect an official announcement of a new stadium deal? The last game at the OB will be in December 1, so can we expect demolition to start Monday, December 3rd ?

I have been sworn to secrecy. Really, you would think that with all the leaks in politics, something would leak, if anything was happening. However, baseball business usually shuts down during the playoffs so as not to sidetrack the public with other issues-this, of course, does not apply to the Bronx Zoo.

someone told me that the city wants to add OB demolition costs and a multi-level parking garage (and they are working on it). how are they getting along? I have no idea we shall see. . .

I don't need to know details, I just want to know that things are still progressing toward an agreement at the OB site. Can anyone say with any confidence that this issue may be resolved by the end of the year?

Yea, the guy on the radio in Hialeah. He said a lot of things with confidence-none of which happened. This thread is born out of desperation. Time would seem to be running out and we have been teased of a deal, we have been threatened with losing the team, etc etc. It will be a pleasure when something is done, the shovels are in the ground, the graft has been taken care of and we can finally see what type of owner Loria will be.

end of the year? I doubt it

As it was mentioned today on Descarga Deportiva....

On the agenda for the next board of county commissioners meeting is a resolution with the stadium tied to it.

It is a reso, which would allow the mayor or his designee to enter into negotiations with the marlins, city and MLB for a stadium at the OB site and for the mayor or his designee to find the funds that were promised or something like that.

Should be an interesting day.

Next meeting scheduled for Oct. 16, which is next Tuesday.

i have feeling that city of miami told marlins that ob ground is their for taking and i bet their gave marlins deadline some time early next year so their know what going happen with OB ground if going to be ballpark or housing

By now, haven't there been negotiations with everyone under the sun covering every darn scenario? And to think it only took 7 days to create heaven and earth. But G-d wasn't dealing with the Marlins, the county and the City.

so next tuesday will be passed the bill to officially negotiate over that land with the newfound money and land there of the OB.

So another 2 weeks after that and basic deal offically would be done (sure they have one pretty much drawn up already). Then a few more months for zoning and that stuff. Then another 6-8 months before ground breaking?

I won't take the timetable as anywhere near canon, but... what zoning? It's already a stadium. I don't think they have different zones for baseball stadiums and football stadiums. :mischief

The best answer I can give is "Your guess is as good as mine." With the layers of bureaucracies and the muck of having the Lorias as the owners combined, who knows what the end game would be. :|

Nothing much, but a little blurb from a recent Miami Today news roundup, right towards the bottom:

BALLPARK FUNDING: For the first time, some Miami-Dade commissioners are looking at the use of Building Better Communities General Obligation Bond funding as a source of money for a new Florida Marlins' stadium ? up to $50 million to be exact. Jos? "Pepe" Diaz, chair of the Airport and Tourism Committee, recently suggested to Chairman Bruno Barreiro that the bond funding be used for the stadium, an idea Carlos Gimenez also has signed off on. Convention Development Tax and the Professional Sports Tax also are being eyed as revenue sources.

wasnt meant to be cannon was sorta a question sorry. Just trying to figure out about when we would see the thing if stuff progresses fast.

Gee, talk about stating the obvious. But then again it's Miami Today. The county has been talking about this as a source for more than six months, the problem being the make-up of the 21 member oversight board. That it is now out in the open though is excellent news as is the agenda item on the next county comission meeting, which would only be there if the deal has already been negotiated and near completion.

There are still hurdles I don't think MLB in the end let's them be deal killers.

And yes, there are a number of permitting and impact statement issues ahead too, and they are not without consequence but in the end the two competing interests (Marlins on one side, the Arts and cultural interests on the other) will both get what they want which is why this line of funding has opened up.
