October 21, 200719 yr From The Times-Picayune Interesting, he barely lost to Kathleen Blanco in the last election....so Katrina finally gave him enough push to win.
October 22, 200719 yr Jindal is a very accomplished candidate and to be honest the reason why he did not win the first time probably has alot to do with racism none the less it is interesting to see Katrina's effects politically I think as most have suggested the storm helps LA republicans because of the population change and the incompetence of the the largely Democratic state politicians who handled Katrina locally . Nationally of course the effects of Katrina had the exact opposite effect and that i believe Katrina even more than the Iraq war led to W's approval ratings going into the tank
October 22, 200719 yr From The Times-Picayune Interesting, he barely lost to Kathleen Blanco in the last election....so Katrina finally gave him enough push to win. It wasn't a suprise. Katrina has benefited local Republicans tremendously. MAYOR RAY NAGIN, NEW ORLEANS: To President Bush, I want to thank you, Mr. President. You and I have probably been the most vilified politicians in the country. But I want to thank you for moving that promise that you made in Jackson Square forward. We now have $3 billion for levees, we have $8 billion for incentives, we have $10 billion for housing. You are delivering on your promise, and I want to thank you for all the citizens of the city of New Orleans.
October 22, 200719 yr Mitch Landrieu also won big for Lt. Gov., so maybe there will be a counterbalance against someone who is allegedly a member of Opus Dei.
October 22, 200719 yr Author Mitch Landrieu also won big for Lt. Gov., so maybe there will be a counterbalance against someone who is allegedly a member of Opus Dei. But Jindal and Landrieu don't have many public spats in the past. I don't see the big deal with Louisiana, a state divided into parishes, having a Catholic governor. One of Opus Dei's largest points is to bring professionalism and competence to daily business....exactly what Louisiana needs.
October 22, 200719 yr Mitch Landrieu also won big for Lt. Gov., so maybe there will be a counterbalance against someone who is allegedly a member of Opus Dei. OOOOOOHH Scary stuff! Maybe he has Kennedy's secret bat phone to the vatican with him
October 22, 200719 yr Jindal is your run of the mill Bush republican conservative. But I actually would have voted for him if I still lived there. That state is plagued with morons and cronies who run the government. Blanco was one of the dumbest out there. I really hope Jindal will be an intelligent government official out to solve problems first and not a partisanship over effective government type of guy. He really does have an amazing education.
October 22, 200719 yr At only 36, he's won two Congressional elections and now election as Governor. (Interesting note: Ray Nagin actually endorsed Jindal in 2003.) If he does good, he could yet have higher political heights to attain.
