I thought it was dec 13th , i read a snippet in the on line version of the miami herald in which manny diaz stated they wanted to get the stadium deal done by jan 1 st , i am not sure what role if any he has in the process as i am no longer versed on the local officials in miami

Marlins have plenty of money-lots of it. What they dont have is an owner with any sense of respect.

are you kidding if payroll is 10-12 mil next year that is paid for with the local media rights there is no way Diaz,Alvarez should let this guy pass make sure he pays for all overruns etc. but it looks like they could have a 40-50 mil profit next year alone

It really sounds like the Marlins do not want a deal to go through. I understand Loria wants to maximize profits unlike some owners who bearly break even to secure championships; however, it sounds like this ownership wants out of South Florida altogether.

I used to be a supporter of the County and City increasing their contribution to make up for the decreased contribution from the Marlins. I can no longer do that. This ownership group has mistreated this city. They don't deserve extra money.

From what I was told and there may a myriad of other issues above or below this on the priority chart, as I've said before, the absence of a parking garage in the newest proposal is a real $$$ issue for the Marlins for number of reasons.

 

It isn't like the $$$ isn't there to get it built, there is no will to do.

If you have no intention or desire of playing at the Orange Bowl why not say so as opposed to bargining in bad faith . If the Marlins dont want to be at the Orange Bowl than no deal will be good enough . If the prinicipal issue is a lack of a parking garage that seems like something that could easily be resolved . This really is starting too look like both sides dont want to make a deal.

The managers of the City of Miami and Miami-Dade County appeared together on a Spanish language radio show this morning. They spoke mainly about the planned tunnel for the Port of Miami, but they also mentioned the stadium issue.

 

They said that they were disappointed that the Marlins were not contributing as much as they had promised earlier, but they realize the Orange Bowl site may not be as profitable for the Marlins as a downtown site would have been. Still they say that the Orange Bowl site is a good site that will benefit the area around the stadium.

 

The city manager said something to the effect that perhaps there may be good news in the December 13th City Commission meeting and also in the County Commission meeting of December 18th, "so that everyone involved could have a good holiday season". There were no follow up questions.

 

We'll have to wait until Thursday to find out.

Good faith negotiating seems to have been gone a long time ago, if it ever was to begin with. Neither side likes each other, nor does it seems like they trust each other. I believe the City and County do not want to lose a major league team, but the numbers are hard to deal with. The Marlins feel squeezed by time constraints and a lack of a suitable alternative. But no one wants to cave in to the pressure.

Nothing about THAT seems promising. I predict nothing will happen on the 13th... of course I hope I'm wrong.
