Paul Refuses to Return Campaign Donation from White Supremacist

Featured Replies

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Republican presidential hopeful Ron Paul has received a $500 campaign donation from a white supremacist, and the Texas congressman doesn't plan to return it, an aide said Wednesday.

Don Black, of West Palm Beach, recently made the donation, according to campaign filings. He runs a Web site called Stormfront with the motto, "White Pride World Wide." The site welcomes postings to the "Stormfront White Nationalist Community."

"Dr. Paul stands for freedom, peace, prosperity and inalienable rights. If someone with small ideologies happens to contribute money to Ron, thinking he can influence Ron in any way, he's wasted his money," Paul spokesman Jesse Benton said. "Ron is going to take the money and try to spread the message of freedom."

"And that's $500 less that this guy has to do whatever it is that he does," Benton added.

Black said he supports Paul's stance on ending the war in Iraq, securing U.S. borders and his opposition to amnesty for illegal immigrants.

"We know that he's not a white nationalist. He says he isn't and we believe him, but on the issues, there's only one choice," Black said Wednesday.

"We like his stand on tight borders and opposition to a police state," Black told The Palm Beach Post earlier.

On his Web site, Black says he has been involved in "the White patriot movement for 30 years."

I think it would be in Dr. Paul's best interest to give the money back, but that's just me.

I don't think it really matters either way, but since it has become a story he probably should give it back. Not like he needs it anyways.

If bin laden gave me 50 bucks, it's 50 less bucks he can use for terrorism.

The reality of the matter is that it is insane we are supposed to be outraged that anyone takes a measly 500 bucks from some insecure whitae guy while it is common practice for all the other politicians to openly sell their souls and votes to special interest. The free and independent media is failing to do its job. Thes from a real story is the tens of millions that Giulliani and Clinton are getting from corporate donors for favors. That's real corruption, not some 500 bucks from a guy who likes Paul because Paul doesn't want to give Israel money.

No he shouldn't.

Unless the money was obtained illegally, we shouldn't regulate who donates money to a campaign based on our personal views of the person's lifestyle.

It's just like Ron Paul said on this: "Why give it back to him to use for bad purposes?"

This is such a non-issue.

That's the perfect response, actually. "I'll take it, but I'm not going to do what you want me to."

He should take the donation and use it on a donation to the UNCF. He could send it to me, it'd infuriate that guy just as much I'm sure.

Agreed. If someone gives me money, what do I care what they believe in? Its not like I am going to use the money they gave me to do what they want.

Now that would be hilarious. He could ask them to name a scholarship after the donator. :mischief
