So I'm going to Los Angeles (Culver City, specifically) in June for two weeks for a Residency for my MFA program. Its a cool program that a lot of Graduate Schools have where I go twice a year for two weeks each time and the rest of the work is done at home (writing, reading, critiquing). This will be my first time anywhere near California, and I was hoping some of you could give me advice as to where to go, where NOT to go, and what to do in or near LA if I happen to have any free time.

Thanks!

Figured this thread deserved at least one serious answer..........

I was born in LA. I haven't been back there since 1999. To be really honest, LA is REALLY big. Driving everywhere is a must and the traffic is like no other.

The mountains are really cool looking (especially when you get used to Florida's flat landscape). The weather is phenomenal. The best weather I've ever experienced. I highly recommend trying to get out to see a Dodger game if they are in town while your out there. You won't regret it.

I guess you could check out the Sunset Strip but to be quite honest, I think LA is a little overrated in terms of a destination because everything is so spread out. If your a movie buff, check out Mann's Chinese Theater.
