I know that there was already a topic about Joe Morgan's comments on Hanley Ramirez during a recent Sunday Night Baseball broadcast. However, Morgan went a little more in-depth about the team's performance, and Hanley specifically, during today's ESPN.com chat:

robert:florida: what do u think of the marlins?

Joe Morgan: (10:41 AM ET ) The Marlins have done well, but it is because they may have the best all-around player in the game in Hanley Ramirez, when you consider hitting, fielding, running the bases, steals etc. When it is all put together I think he is the best all-around player in the game. He hits at the top on the lineup and makes things happen. So I am not too surprised they are playing so well. I do not think they will win the division, but I do think they can be a contender.

It's too early to call him the best player in the game. He has been a complete player for about 3 weeks. Let's see him keep up his improved defensive play for a while and then he'll be in the conversation.

He has been a complete player for a little over a season. Last year was an MVP-like year and this year I think we will see the first MVP come to South Florida.

Take it back... He has struggled defensively and he is showing quite an improvement just this year. So yeah I guess he has shown his complete game in these just three weeks

The scary thing is Hanley might approch A-rod territory when A-Rod was at SS.

I mean the thing that made A-Rod probably the greatest player of all time was the fact that he was not only putting up 1.000+ OPSs but was doing while being an above average defender at one of if the not the most important defensive posistions.

Hanley probably won't reach A-Rod w/ the bat, but if he keeps this fielding up, his bat and glove might put him in that territory...

But saying we're winning because of one player is ludicrous.

Is anything Joe Morgan says not ludicrous?
