May 22, 200818 yr Today's herald said he has gone 2-4 in each of his two games at Jupiter so far with 2 HR's and a SB. Any chance he is brought up this weekend, or do they wait until the road trip?
May 22, 200818 yr According to Rich & Tommy if he has a good extended spring training he could be called up by this weekend.
May 22, 200818 yr I haven't been on the board in a while and I'm too lazy to look around... is Jones expected to be the everyday CF?
May 22, 200818 yr I haven't been on the board in a while and I'm too lazy to look around... is Jones expected to be the everyday CF? The way Amezaga and Ross have been hitting in CF...I would think so.
May 22, 200818 yr On Tuesday, Barry Jackson's South Florida Sports Buzz column in the Herald mentioned that Jones may platoon with Ross.
May 22, 200818 yr Who knows what the expectation is on the part of the front office or the manager? Fredi goes with the hot hand but I would assume he's going to give JJ a good looksee, on the otherhand maybe he starts with a platoon and brings him in slowly. I guess I'm saying I wouldn't hazard a guess. Maybe he's in great shape, this is just such a huge question mark on so many levels, all I personally care about we keep winning games. I'd really like to know who he's facing for pitching in Jupiter. From what I read he's leading off every inning in these games which may be some clue as to what the Marlins have in mind.
May 22, 200818 yr Trust me dont get too excited about these numbers...the extended spring teams really arent very good. Especially compared to MLB level pitchers. It's usually guys with decent fastballs and their offspeed pitches being in a developmental stage.
May 22, 200818 yr On Tuesday, Barry Jackson's South Florida Sports Buzz column in the Herald mentioned that Jones may platoon with Ross. I think he is going to get more of the starts as the season goes along, unless Ross can really start to pull his numbers up. What the Jones move does is give Freddy the chance to use Alfredo in the infield. More flexibility is hardly a bad thing.
May 22, 200818 yr excuse the newbie question, but what exactly is extended spring training? is it just like playing in minor league games or is this a special team set aside to help players coming of of injury or struggling?
May 22, 200818 yr Extended spring training, also called spring instructional league, is a series of games played under spring training rules to help younger players develop. Game are not reported, and there are no standings. Games are only played for bragging rights between the clubs involved and to evaluate the players. Extended Spring Training is also used to rehab players who have been injured and who are not ready to join their assigned teams.
