He didn't even use the "good manager" defense; just said he was a "nice guy." Oh, I guess because he's a nice guy, he should keep his job forever.

October 30, 200322 yr All I have to say is that McKeon looks younger than 50% of the MLB managers out there (Bobby Cox anyone?), and he is full of energy and vitality. TJack is the man!
October 30, 200322 yr My take is that as long as he feels he can contribute to the growth of the young team, he will manage the team....assuming management still wants him. His old-school style combined with his innate "senility" and have "fun" attitude work well with youngsters. Personally, I think Pudge also enjoyed the opportunity to lead by example and McKeon recognized this in him (unlike in Cincy years with Larkin and Griffey). Ditto for other vets like Conine and Lowell. Winning is the only cure for team chemistry unless you are the Lakers. There is still prolly more to this than a one year deal. He maybe grooming someone else to be manager and could stay on as a bench coach or in another capacity.
October 30, 200322 yr nobody says he's going to die, but the guy is almost 73, there's no point in making him sign a multi year contract. even if he doesnt die during that span, the guy needs some time to enjoy his wife and grandchildren in his lifetime. at his age, everyone should be allowed to retire
October 30, 200322 yr I still can't get over the fact the Reds fired him. Glad I'm not a Reds fan. But at least they've seen their team win a world series in recent years.
