October 30, 200322 yr Want AJ closing games? It would be a WASTE of a career. Many people would think that's an extremely stupid move. He's a starting pitcher and he proved it. Just because he got injured doesn't mean he know has to come out the bullpen. I think everyone is forgetting he's still our BEST pitcher despite whatever Josh Beckett did this season.
October 30, 200322 yr He Should Relieve for the 1st Month or 2. Then you Work him into the Rotation Increasing his Pitch Count every start or so.
October 30, 200322 yr I think what most are saying is that he should start coming out of the bullpen for a while. If he becomes a Gagne type, is that a waste of a career?
October 30, 200322 yr there's no rush.-when hes ready he'll pitch. theres no point of rushing-we dont want 2 mess up his arm again.

October 30, 200322 yr they should bring him out of the bullpen for the first half of the year at least, thats exactly what they did with matt morris from the cards and hes been great ever since .(Even though they had morris in the bullpen for the whole year). You dont want to rush him and have him get injured. :thumbup

October 30, 200322 yr Author If he becomes a Gagne type, is that a waste of a career? The only reason Gagne is a closer is because he was TERRIBLE as a starter. AJ has already proven he's a number 1 on most teams and having the kind of stuff he has out the bullpen, would be stupid.
October 30, 200322 yr uberubi u obviously dont get the point, its not to make him a full time closer or reliever hes too good of a pitcher. its to do it for half a year or year so he can get his arm strength bak.
October 30, 200322 yr With the pitching staff set it gives AJ all the time he needs to get ready to play. There is no rushing him. I believe he's going to have to earn his spot if the other guys are still performing at such a high level and that means starting out in the bullpen. AJ's amazing though so he'll work his way back in there pretty quickly. I don't imagine he'll want to spend much time relieving games.
October 30, 200322 yr If he becomes a Gagne type, is that a waste of a career? The only reason Gagne is a closer is because he was TERRIBLE as a starter. exactly why he shouldn't win Cy Young, but this is not the place to talk about it
October 30, 200322 yr Author Ha! I always hated Eric Gagne. And even worse, he cost us home field advantage.
October 30, 200322 yr Ha! I always hated Eric Gagne. And even worse, he cost us home field advantage. what difference does it make? You guys won anyway. If you had lost it would have been because of that though. But now it's all moot. And he doesn't hold the consecutive save record because IMO the all star game counted
October 30, 200322 yr Author I don't think closers should ever win the Cy Young award. Especially Gagne. The only reason he is a closer is because he was horrible as a starter. And he wouldn't have a save chance if it wasn't for... THE STARTING PITCHER.
October 30, 200322 yr what difference does it make? The difference is, and this is being picky after the fact, that we could have actually been there to see them win in person had Gagne not given up the homer. The second time I've been to the game BEFORE they won the World Series. Bitter? Hell yeah.

October 30, 200322 yr Author That team could have been great in the play-offs if it wasn't for their offense. They had great 'Yankee' like pitching.

The second time I've been to the game BEFORE they won the World Series. Bitter? Hell yeah. just be grateful your team didn't won the World Series. I have never seen my team win a world series and I will probably never see them win a world series. And who knows, if you guys had home field maybe you would have won it 5 or 4
October 30, 200322 yr You can't be such a defeatist. My grandmother is 74 and STILL believes that the Red Sox are going to win every year. That's some faith. You have to figure you'll get lucky and it'll happen eventually. I mean it's the Giants, not the Cubs.
October 30, 200322 yr Let's take a look at how various Giants seasons have ended: 2003: 100 wins, but defensive f ups by gold glove caliber players cost the giants the series. In game 3, the 0giants go ahead in the 11th but leave 3 men on and an error by the gold glove cfer costs the team the game, in game 4 tying run thrown out at the playe 2002: up 5-0 in the seventh inning and up in the series 3-2, blow game and series 2001: two games out of eventual world series champions. For an entire month, the Giants and D-Backs would do the same thing. If the Giants won, the D-Backs would win, everytime the D-Backs lost, the Giants blew their chance to gain a game 2000: lose two straight extra inning games, one in the 10th and one in the 13th, and then get 1-hit by Bobby Jones 1999: ahead going into september but collapsed the rest of the way 1998: make great september run to tie the wild card but blow leads in the last two games of the year and then lose 1 game playoff to cubs 1997: blow leads in 3 straight games and lose by one run in two of them 1993: win 103 games, miss playoffs 1989: swept in the world series 1987: up 3 games to 2 in nlcs but don't score again in the rest of the series 1962: McCovey hits line drive that would have won the world series but bobby richardson was out of position and McCovey hits it to him that if it gone one foot in either direction, the Giants would have won not to mention numerous second half collapses. Every time something happens. This year, the Giants played at their worst and the Marlins played at their best. No excuses. Even if the giants were to sign every top free agent in the market, they'd still find a way to blow it. I may have only been born in 85, but after the last few years of disapointment and heartbreak, I will not get my hopes up.
