Our Offense

Some numbers comparing the "good" offense the first two months with the "bad" offense the last two + months:

Runs per game:

April and May - 4.94 (4th in the NL)

June, July and August - 4.46 (8th in the NL)

OPS:

April and May - .781 (3rd in the NL)

June, July and August - .729 (11th in the NL)

Doesn't seem like a big drop by the numbers, but the rankings show it has been a pretty big drop.

C'mon Fish Fans!!!

why is it that the baseball gods are always cruel and cannot coordinate good hitting and good pitching together?

seems typical that as our arms returned, our bats disappeared

Can't be really surprised, we are a fastball hitting team. Early on pitchers didn't catch on to this so we slugged our way up the offensive ranks. We hit a lot of HR's which would make the OPS a bit mis-leading considering the team never walked much. Pitchers are trying to show more breaking stuff and making us miss outside the zone. We have drawn some good amount of walks in certain games this last week but only because they were laying of the stuff away, stuff in the zone has been swung at an missed. I might receive criticism for this but Manny could have really helped the playoff push. If the team doesn't show better plate dicisipline and keeps swinging for the fences, this team will be fortunate to finish 500.
