US Open 2008

Man this Deheart guy is a nice story... the guy has made 20k all year, and 60k in his whole career but he has stuck through it and now is playing in the US Open and giving Nadal a good fight here in the 3rd set.

He is guaranteed 30k in this tournament.... good for him.

He looked like he was having a great time out on the court.

Play starts soon today. Some people think Zheng will upset Jankovic but I don't see it happening. She performed well during Wimbledon but her only big win was against Ana Ivanovic who has played like crap this summer anyway. Jankovic should advance no problem. Same with Federer and Djokovic. Davenport/Bartoli should be fun I guess but the big match is Roddick/Gulbis. Should be a good day.

Well Zheng is giving Jankovic a run for her money but it's at least nice to see. Still think Jankovic will pull off the win but I wasn't expecting something so close.

wow what a great game so far... 5 deuces and counting!!

EDIT: 11 and counting!

lol finally Jankovic got it...I would have liked to see a third set... oh well, Davenport vs. Bartoli should be fun as well.

Hmmm this match looks like it could be a long one for Federer... he just doesn't look the same.

2nd night match after Davenport/Bartoli. I'm guessing around 9:00 but it could be sooner or later than that.

I mixed up the hours. Thought night coverage started at 8 but it's 7. Usually the match doesn't start until 7:30-8:00 anyway though. But I think the Davenport/Bartoli match will go 3 sets.

Fed advances in straight sets. This Kendrick guy is giving Djokovic a great match though. That first set tiebreak was amazing. Kuznetsova damn near lost in the second set against Srebotnik but forced a third. Dementieva won so I'm happy about that. I don't think she'll win the open but I love seeing her play and perform well. A couple of Americans already went down (Reynolds and Ginepri), will Roddick join them later?!

TUNE IN LATER TO SEE! :mischief

Bummer about Ginepri, I've been watching him play more lately and I like the guy's game, not dominant by any means, but fun to watch

Srebotnik completes the upset. Kuznetsova looked like she was gonna run off and kill herself after that match. Tough loss. And if Kendrick keeps this match close like he's been doing, we won't even have to go anywhere when it's done. Night coverage starts at 7 and it's already 6. Go Kendrick!

I like Srebotnik more than Kuznetsova, so, yay for me :D

That upset opens up the field for Dementieva... wouldn't be surprised to see her in the mix.

Yeah she's pretty much a lock for the semis now. If she doesn't make it there, I'd be shocked.

I wouldn't, she's very capable of having her serve fail a match and just falling apart

She's playing extremely well right now though. She's gonna face people she should beat and with the way she's playing, I'd be shocked if she lost. In her 3 matches, she hasn't lost a set and only has 10 double faults. That's pretty low for Dementieva because we all know she could easily be around 10-15 in ONE match. She didn't have a single DF today either. I know it's against weak competition but still, I like her chances.

Also, I like talking tennis here way more than some other board I go to. People act like know it alls and pretty much only want a woman to advance if she's "cute" or "hot". All I heard today was "Too bad Zheng didn't advance, she's so tiny/cute!". Obviously I like looking at the good looking girls too but that doesn't really affect how/why I watch tennis. I don't root for certain players just because they look good.

Right, I understand all of that, but because she IS highly capable of 10-15 DFs in a single match, she's still entirely capable of losing between here and there. Is she likely to get there, yes, but yeah, I wouldn't be shocked, maybe surprised a bit, but certainly not shocked.

Ok, I get what you're saying now. There's really no point in arguing further because we've both said what we want to say. I guess we'll just have to wait now.

Yup, flipping back and forth between FSN and USA :D

Hey, the D-Rays are on FSN tonight! Traitor!

Also, Anna Chakvetadze lost in the first round of mixed doubles. Lol.
