October 31, 200322 yr He say something about How Loria can come up with 130 million he says he can put up if they had to borrow 30 million from MLB just to buy the Marlins. The last two years the Marlins have lost about 40 millions dollars. The guy doesn't have the deep pockets like Arison and Wayne H..He thinks Loria best chance is to find partners to help with the cost.Hank ask the question: Where the money coming from? The guy is just an art dealer is not exactly loaded.
October 31, 200322 yr i've been wondering the exact same thing, minus. the guy needed a huge loan to buy the marlins, i don't see him having much more. on the plus side, i highly doubt he had a significant loss, if any, this season because we made it so far in the postseason. also, most of the money that the marlins are going to put up for the stadium is NOT up front, but will instead be paid from future revenues
October 31, 200322 yr I don't think Hank is a financial pundit. He's a race track bum. He doesn't know anything at all about high finance, . And neither do most of us. And he knows less about baseball. There are SO many ways for that money to be put together that is beyond our limited comprehension. All we get of what is really going on is the PR releases. What they want us to know, or think we know. Hank has been bad mouthing the Marlins all season, except right at the end. He is a negative guy, who appears to be unhappy with his miserable life, and his miserable career. I'm not putting a whole lot of stock in his opinion about finances or baseball, just because WQAM gives him some air time. WQAM is the same "sports station" that has Neal Rogers as it's top rated spot. And that doesn''t have absolutely anything to do with sports at all. No cred.

I disagreee with you since Hank is the only WQAM host who is a season ticket holder no matter what.He did bad mouth the owners at first but who didn't in the media? He admited that he was wrong and that front office put together a quality team with their available resources. BTW....Hank came up with this topic after talking to a high ranking Miami Dade politician. He just pointing out the obvious which is where the money coming from? Is not like he said that he wishes for the marlins to be contracted but simply said they need partners for the stadium deal to go down.Remember the other previous owners had the money to back it up but weren't able to get it done and how is Loria going to get 135 mil if he already in debt for who knows how much between the time they own the Marlins and Montereal.

Does he pay for those tickets? No. And if you say yes, I have a canal on eigth street I would like to sell you. So the excuse for him badmouthing the team is that everyone else was doing it? Does that make it right? No. So if it doesn't make it right, then there remains no excuse for him badmouthing the team and the ownership and now having to come up with new bs because the Dolphins had a bad practice and he doesn't want to talk about the 96th string punter only having a net punting average of 35 yards instead of 40.

Actually he does pay for those Season Tickets. Those are media passes so he does support the team by purchasing season tickets.

October 31, 200322 yr Loria was lent the money by MLB not out of nessicity (sp) but because Loria and MLB agreed that they needed to cut financial risk as much as possible.

And bulls*** he pays for his season tickets. bulls***. And if he does, where does he sit huh?
October 31, 200322 yr all wqam on air "talent" (word that should be used is delinquents) get season tix to all the teams wqam airs in their contract.
October 31, 200322 yr Author all wqam on air "talent" (word that should be used is delinquents) get season tix to all the teams wqam airs in their contract. No ....Hank said it himself that he purchase season tickets and he has to call just like any regular Joe has to do.So now the man is a liar?He even complaint how long they were taking to mail his season tickets.
October 31, 200322 yr Author The man is not bashing front office instead he was praising Beinfest and said he has his vote for GM of the year.He is not going out on a rampage bashing Loria just pointed out the truth about Loria not having deep pockets and can't do it by himself.
October 31, 200322 yr wqam gives it's talent entrance. it is a known fact, the press badge alone does it, but if they want they can get season tix and wqam pays for it.
October 31, 200322 yr Author wqam gives it's talent entrance. it is a known fact, the press badge alone does it, but if they want they can get season tix and wqam pays for it. He said came out out his own pocket and they don't need season ticket pay for WQAM since the press badge they can get in whenever they want so I doubt WQAM pays for season tickets.WQAM management is all out wack and some host complaint about even getting their paychecks on time(MadDog) so I really WQAM pays for season ticket knowing they can just use their press badge.
October 31, 200322 yr Author Hank purchase season tickets from his own pocket every year according to him.You can say all you want but the bottom line is either Hank is a liar or he is telling the truth.
October 31, 200322 yr I'm just going to say Hank has always had a "Hidden Agenda" against the Marlins. "Hank came up with this topic after talking to a high ranking Miami Dade politician. " "high ranking Miami Dade politician" sure. :lol

When teams say they lose money they are actually hiding behind accounting terms so they don't have to pay income taxes....they are not technically losing money.
November 1, 200322 yr "high ranking Miami Dade politician" An oxymoron in and of itself. Rule of thumb I always use. If the source isn't named, 75% chance he/she doesn't exist.
November 1, 200322 yr When teams say they lose money they are actually hiding behind accounting terms so they don't have to pay income taxes....they are not technically losing money. You come into a business to make money... The guy took a chance and it thankfully worked out for him... If the Marlins made "SO MUCH" money as you guys claim Loria is making, why the hell would the previous owners sell the team in first place? There are certain skilled people who go and buy a bankrupt co. (in this case the Marlins frranchise) and put all the necessary effort to bring it back up and make a profit of it... The Marlins did lose money this year, but Loria made all the right moves and now he knows that with a stadium deal and the increase of the fan base he will make this money back times ten... That is how you do business.... Or you can be a total bastard like Huizenga and kill your golden egg producer chicken at once to make a quick cash profit... That is how you do popoo on South Florida Baseball! Loria is smarter than that. Shamrock, you can only evade taxes when your co. has been highly successful for a long time... The Marlins were losing money before, they are still losing money, but they will make it back if this stadium deal comes true... If it does not, expect to see Loria selling the team or moving it somewhere else... That's just how it is!
November 1, 200322 yr As much as what cyberlina is saying is true, Shamrock hit the nail almost on the head. They don't break flat even, but losses are often exagerrated for one reason or another. I would pin the losses for the Marlins this year in 5-10 million range, if not less.

The post-season and the series brought down the projected Net loss from 23 M to about the figure you said... But that is still a loss and I do not think he would try to evade taxes just like that!
