November 1, 200322 yr Wow...that would be something to have anther K-Rod. I don't think the Yankees would take the chance of signing him though--Jose Contreras didn't really work out for them in my opinion.
November 1, 200322 yr I say let the Yankees sign the guy. I mean, none of these hightly touted defectors have been any better than average. They threw cash at Contreras before they even scouted him, i bet. i.e: Osvaldo Fernandez Livan Hernandez Jose Contreras El Duque etc...
November 1, 200322 yr El Duque was awesome for the Yankees... Livan had his best year ever this year, and was pretty good in 1997 dont discount Contreras yet
November 1, 200322 yr They'll both be Yankees. why do you think/ how do you know? Two words: El Duque Anyone remember him? :mischief2 Cuban Defector as well and had his chance to play here in Miami, but he went for the money in New York. Lasted real long too! :lol
November 2, 200322 yr I would love to see that guy pitch that got 200 + K's and throws 100 MPH. I would love to see more of these cuban baseball players. I hope the Yankees dont take them. Too bad there is alot of Cuban Talented Players that cant come....
November 2, 200322 yr Cuban players = Da s*** Best players in the world come from the Big 3 en El Caribe

And there is alot of talent in Cuba and other Latin Countries that cant come here or dont want to come here. Trust me, Latins are very good at baseball. Specially Dominicans....ex:sosa, encarnacion, Luis Castillo, Moises Alou....

Well, that is obvious, because this is an American league in the United States and latins haven't been coming over much recently. But back in the day when American Major Leaguers would play in Cuba and in Puerto Rico in the winters (and we are talking good people here, Frank Robinson, Willie Stargell) they would get beaten by the latin players (like some guy named Clemente.....)
November 3, 200322 yr yeah, back in the day a lot of great cuban playes played in the negro leagues and the minor leagues. greats like dolph luque and jose de la caridad mendez. once the yankees played mendez's team in cuba, this was a team that had gherig and ruth and all those great ones in the 20's, yet mendez shut them down for 9 innings and beat them. then he went on a U.S. tour and went something ridiculous like 30 - 5 or somethign like that. the guy was the cuban satchel page. anyhow, talking about this two, i've had the fortune of watching them both play. duenas is a very good 2nd basemen, he's not great defensively but he's solid. offensively he's a singles hitting machine, with more power than castillo. the bad thing is he's already 31 and at that age is hard to adapt to a completely different, and tougher, league. maybe he can pull it off (ichiro) did, but it's difficult. rodriguez in the other hand is a complete stud. this guy has everything, and if he's healthy he can be the next roger clemmens. if you think contreras has nasty stuff you haven't seen anything yet.
