Ramp's Proposed 2004 Payroll

What is the total projected payroll for your scenario? I could not find this column.

It looks like we lose Urbina and Castillo as Free Agents and trade away Penny and Lee in your scenario. Are you assuming we get Walker from Boston as a result of a deal for Penny?

Mal

here is the projected payroll for my roster: 62,925,000(located in I33)

in a way i am assuming we clear enough payroll for Walker, by losing Penny and crew

any other questions? Thanks.

I appreciate the time and effort you have put forth on this. I must agree with Fish Fool that some of the arbitration numbers seem a bit conservative.

The move I question most is the dumping of Penny - especially at his salary level. If he is traded we need to get a bundle in return.

I like the Eduardo Perez idea, I had been thinking of that for a while now.

Keep up the good work.

Im thinking arbitration wont be as great as it has been in the past

and Fish Fillet, im not sure what you mean with the health plans and whatnot

the reported salary for us in 2003 was about $50mil, thats whats reported by the paper

so in my proposed roster of $62mil, i am doing the same thing, showing the reported salary

i have never seen the health plans and whatnot added in before

Am I the only one who isn't a big fan of a Lowell/Johnson trade?

I am also not a Fan of that Trade :confused me neither, I'm with you guys.

Hey c'mon, how about a credit to old HC for the Excel payroll page Ramp? :whistle

where's the love man??!!! :p

hey, ive been telling alot of people you gave me the start....

i finished the job lol

thanks again buddy

USA Today and a couple of other papers publish "actual" payrolls around mid september every year. Been looking for the one I saw a couple of months ago, but can't find it at the moment.

Anyway, when the media and talking heads start debating payroll numbers remember that the actual cost to the team is much higher.

Just like if you have an emloyee you pay 40K a year. You may pay him 40K per, but still have to pick up employer payroll taxes, workman's comp, SSI, etc.... So your cost as an emplyer is much higher.

Am I the only one who isn't a big fan of a Lowell/Johnson trade?

No. As a straight up trade, it would be weak. Johnson is potentially an excellent player, and a professional hitter. But I don' t see him as the guy who anchors the line up like Lowell. Especially if you remove Pudge frm that lineup.

While Cabrera looks like the real deal, and should be tough in the middle of the lineup, it's too much to ask of him to carry the load. Lowell is probably the most important part of the offense right now, in my opinion. If you trade him you better get lots of value.

The original proposal at the beginning of the thread suggested a Lowell for Nick Johnson and Juan Rivera deal. Cabrera could play third, Johnson first and Rivera right. We could then move Lee and Encarnacion for bullpen help and other prospects to help soldify our system. I propsed keeping Pudge, Castillo and Urbina in this scenario.
