Broncos fire Shanahan

Featured Replies

Broncos fired head coach Mike Shanahan.

The better decision would have been to strip Shanahan of his personnel duties, but owner Pat Bowlen made the reactionary move to fire him outright. Bowlen is very unlikely to find a better in-game strategist and influence on Jay Cutler. It's also now unclear what will become of the team's zone-blocking running system, a longtime Broncos staple. Shanahan finishes his 14 years in Denver with a 136-86 record, two Super Bowl wins, and seven playoff appearances. This is a foolish firing by the Broncos.

i personally think this should have been done years ago...the broncos have been slowly going south for years and shanahan was as much responsible for that as anyone there

This is probably the biggest shocker of the firings. Shanahan still has a lot left in him. The Broncos also fired their VP of football operations i believe, so i guess they just want to start a slight rebuilding project in the front office.

completely agree, beyond shocking.

Also, maybe Chower goes to Denver now?

I don't think Cowher is coming back...

I can't believe that about Shanahan. Jeez, I'll take him in Washington.

If Cowher returns anywhere, i believe it would be with the Jets sadly. He would want to make a splash with an already contending team, and the Jets is where he would be able to contend as well as get a lot of publicity. The Broncos, Browns, and Lions are not the right fits for Cowher right now, the Jets seems like the only place he could actually get the money, the front office support, and the media he wants following him around.

actually I heard ESPN say that they were still planning on interviewing Cowher for the head coaching vacancy. I heard that report as well, ESPN has conflicting reports at the current time.
