Raiders game.

This is the right move I think. The team needs to change directions. With Monte Kiffin also leaving it gives us the chance to build from the start. Gruden couldnt commit to a QB and never gave the young QBs a chance. We have a hell of a lot of cap room this off season and need to get some more young studs on defence and develop a proper passing game. Also need to make sure we hang on to Antonio Bryant.

Mike Shanahan is an early name being thrown into the mix

Sure gonna be one fun offseason for my Buccs!

Dumb move in my book.

Stupid move. It would be one thing if they had a terrible season, but the Bucs were just one game away from making the playoffs. I think this was mainly just a frustration move.

The simple fact is that since the Superbowl win in his 1st season, in 6 seasons we only made the playoffs twice and lost at home in the Wildcard weekend both times.

I thank Chucky for the Superbowl but other than that, the results werent good

Well, neither were the teams.

Well, that's because, at least IMO, Gruden sucks at building/sustaining teams... and TB never seemed to pony up for FAs (though, as the Steelers show you, it's not entirely necessary)

Dungy built that team and it's cool that it's lasted this long

why is everyone so up in arms about this move? he won with dungy's players and didn't do a damn thing after. a super bowl win isn't going to buy you an extra decade as coach of a team. he would have kept his job if the bucs didnt collapse and since for the most part, you cant fire the players they had to fire the coach.

It just seems silly. He was about to get his team back in the playoffs, the only reason they missed was a total fluke (both the fact that they lost to OAK, that Philly beat Dallas, and that Minnesota won) and so they knee-jerk fire him? Come on... after a season with with double digit wins, give the guy another year for cryin out loud.

Havent won double digit games since 2005

Also, losing our final 4 games and missing the playoffs despite a 9-3 start aint a fluke

I think, considering your roster, that starting 9-3 was a fluke.

Dumb, dumb move... Just like the Broncos firing Shannahan was.

Both of these guys are going to catch on somewhere else quick. I'm happy with Sparano in Miami (obviously) but if these were to have happened last season I know I'd be all over both of these guys with a vacancy...

I bet Pioli wishes he waited to see this come about.

Gruden is a jerk. His average record (minus the SB with Dungy's players) wasn't worth the ego and the inability to actually build a team that went with it. The team needs to re-tool and Gruden isn't exactly good with the kids.

Defensive Backs coach Raheem Morris seems set to take over from Chucky

That sucks, I was very shocked i couldn't believe it. Ive always liked Gruden and i just hate how nowadays when a team has a disappointing season the head coach is the first one to go. Why don't they try the PLAYERS who are the ones PLAYING the games, not the coach. ...

Anyways, good luck Chucky, im sure he'll find a new job soon.
