stadium $$$ approved

Featured Replies

So we sell stadium ads, luxary boxes, and the naming rights, find a site, and start building?

I hope is that easy!

I believe next step is site location

No, this is not nearly a stadium. The county manager made it clear that this is just a first step, $115 million is still needed to close the gap between the cost of the stadium and the amount pledged by the county and the team. They agreed to not extend the deadline for a stadium past March 15, in fact the Marlins wanted a March 1 deadline, but some primary elections in early March pushed that back. Also, if the deal is not reached by March 15, the $35 million from the Convention Development Tax goes back to being for Miami Beach. The other $38 million from the county comes from the professional sports development tax. The final deal would have to be approved by the county comissioners, but there is no reason they wouldn't approve that becasue they wont have to pay any more money. If no deal is reached by March 15, the whole deal is off, so they have 4 months to put it together.

Incidentally, those most in favor of this deal were County Manger Burgess, Comission chairperson Carey-Schuler, Commissioners Sosa and Diaz.

The biggest detractors were Commissioners Sorenson, Barreiro, Ferguson, and Morales.

Mayor Alex Penelas spoke in favor of the deal, and the Marlins were represented by Samson and I believe Tony Perez.

Yeah, what RossInfo said...

Also, the City of Miami Beach has already publicly stated that they will legally challenge any financing deal which broaches the CD tax.

The vote today was not winning the war. More like winning a very small precursory battle.

wow... just wow.

So where will it be built?

Don King is offering his Property to us. He said the stadium should be 40,000 Max.

The Marlins are looking into it but not 100 %.

wow... just wow.
