Looking at what is going on with the "Stimulus" Bill only leads me to two conclusions - it either reinforces the belief that the Democrats and Republicans really are just one party and this is all just a show or it suggests to me that the Democrats and the President are idiots.

Think about for a minute - the Republicans by and large have no problem with the bill from a philosophical standpoint. They refuse to represent the viewpoint that this action will be counter productive and that it goes beyond the scope of government, and instead agree entirely in principle with the President that lowering taxes while massively increasing domestic spending is a good idea and will help the economy. The only debate being had is what spending is ok and where should more money be spent.

The Republicans aren't offerring an alternative and telling people that we've been trying this for a while now and it doesn't work. They agree entirely in principle with the President.

The Democrats, assuming this isn't just a show, are idiots who are throwing away what would've been seen by them as a monumental victory legislatively in line with their success back in November. There's no reason to push all the pet projects when they already have majorities that will allow them to push them through later.

The President, again assuming this isn't a show, also shares blame here. Even if it is Congress that has screwed up the bill, he could easily demonstrate independence and goodwill if he told his own party that as urgent as he believes the situation is that he would veto a pork-loaded "Stimulus" package if that was what they sent him. If he seriously wants to pass this bill and the Republicans seriously take issue with all the pork spending and Pres. Obama honestly wants their support then he needs to reign in his party.

But I think the current debate is more comical than substantive. Or at least it would be comical if it didn't involve wasting so much of our money.

Sort of agree with you, except that I think they'll get it worked out soon enough. But yeah, dump some of the pet projects and it's probably done already.

But on the President's side, I think this is more of a show actually. What you propose is probably what'll happen ultimately, I think he knows how to work both sides.

Curious that when the bank bailout was in front of congress there was no hesitation.

???

The Bank Bailout failed to pass on the first vote in the House, so I'm not sure what exactly you mean by "no hesitation". I can't say that the fact that it did gave me much confidence in the GOP, but it's at least some reason for hope. But even then, they don't have the power right now to really stop this.

Ehhh, no you're correct, I'd forgotten already.

What I dislike most about Penguino is that he is 100% sure he is right and that everyone else is an idiot. Keynesians are right about some things and wrong about others. Likewise, the economists he follows are probably right about some things and wrong about others. No one has a monopoly on the truth.

This is the stuff that bothers me...

Instead of fixing ATV roads how about using that 20 million cut and putting it back into some other stuff that was cut out. There was a lot of decent stuff that they used to cut it down from 900 billion. More acceptable than this stuff.

PRAISE THE LORD! SOMEONE SPEAKS THE TRUTH!

I have not seen anything to suggest that the GOP 'agrees' with the idea of this bill. Their entire House caucus voted against this bill. Only 3 moderate Senators from the Right voted for the Senate version. Granted, the ones who didn't vote for the bill in the House or the Senate mostly just wanted a crapload of new tax cuts to go into the bill, with one Senator proposing an amendment that 36 GOP Senators voted for, which would have made the bill 100% tax cuts, and reduced all corporate and financial taxes to near zero.
