April 11, 200917 yr Bonafacio's speed is a real game changer. Even when he's not stealing, he's causing balks, rushed throws- he is a major distraction to the other team whenever he gets on. It's amazing to go back to posts from November and see how bitterly Beinfest was ripped for making this trade with the Nationals. No one, including Beinfest, is perfect. However, I don't know how anyone can't give a Beinfest trade the benefit of the doubt at this point.

However, it is still too soon to be conclusive about his 2009-10 contribution. That being said, he looks like a gamer, and there is good reason to be psyched. I believe in a baserunner's ability to affect the psyche of the guy at the plate. When he is on, our boys have the utmost faith that if they get the ball in play, he will maximize the opportunity. If he keeps getting on base, the Marlins will be a force to be reckoned with. No doubt about it.

Olsen and Willingham don't look like MLB difference makers anymore.
April 11, 200917 yr I don't recall bitterness about the trade with Washington. I think all Marlins fans knew that Olson was terrible and that Willingham was okay, but not someone we wanted playing left field every day. I would have targeted the righthander Martis as the player I wanted from the Nationals in return.

April 11, 200917 yr You are referring to the discussion of whether Maybin or Bonifacio should be leading off?

Yeah, that didn't happen. Most people weren't angry about Boni becoming the 3B, since both McDallas and Gaby played like sh*t in ST. I think you are getting confused with the leadoff discussion. But I do remember anger at the trade. I was one of them and still am. We could have gotten more.
April 11, 200917 yr But I do remember anger at the trade. I was one of them and still am. We could have gotten more. At this point I severely doubt it. Trades that never happened, Part 1: How worried were the Angels about their rotation at the end of spring training? We know they made a run at the Reds' Aaron Harang. Now we're also hearing they talked to Washington about left-hander Scott Olsen. Names that were believed to have been kicked around included Dustin Moseley, Shane Loux and Jason Bulger, a guy who was once interim Washington GM Mike Rizzo's No. 1 pick in Arizona. Trades that never happened, Part 2: We're also hearing that Tampa Bay made inquiries, earlier this spring, about Josh Willingham, one of the odd men out in Washington's incredibly overpopulated outfield/first-base rotation. The buzz is that the Rays dangled Jason Hammel, but the two sides never got any momentum going toward finishing off that deal. Moseley and Loux are not good, Bulger is somewhat interesting except we're talking about a 30 year old guy who'll hopefully be an average reliever. And I am really not a fan of Jason Hammel. I'd take Smolonski and Dean over Hammel and angel stuff, let alone then adding in Bonifacio.

April 11, 200917 yr I'm still a huge fan of Hammer and think his ceiling is way more than marginal. I think what he did before getting injured is around what he's capable of. I mean, he obviously wasn't going to hit .341 all season. But you normalize his BABIP to his career BABIP and he'd have a line of .297/.366/.593/.959. I'd expect the SLG to go down, but the OBP to also go up. I think he is certainly capapble of being a .900 to .950 OPS bat. IF his back was able to stay stable. Which it isn't. The issue isn't skill, it's ability to stay healthy. And injury prone players aren't worth much.
