April 8, 200917 yr It's time to give this front office the recognition they deserve. I know it's only 2 games but this is THE BEST front office in all of baseball! No one could do it any better..... Beinfest is the best GM in baseball hands down (even if that isn't his title anymore). He trades 2 decent players Willingham and Olsen for Bonfacio and everyone thinks he gets ripped off- well with Willingham's back and Olsen's attitude- he won that deal! Uggla a Rule 5 pick up- one of the most powerful 2nd baseman ever to play the game. Nolasco, a team ace traded for Juan Pierre, who is a nobody now. Leo Nunez, a guy who throws 97 mph for Mike Jacobs, worst OBP among starting 1st baseman last year. Last year he trades the team's best hitter- Cabrera and best pitcher- Willis and the Marlins actually IMPROVE in terms of wins! And Maybin only had 32 ABs!!! Trades Josh Beckett for Hanley Ramirez among criticism- Hanley becomes the best overall player in baseball- still with upside- and locks him up long term for 6 years! Signs Pudge for one year and the Marlins win it all. He doesn't bait on Manny Ramirez for Michael Stanton swap and now Stanton is Gammons favorite minor leaguer. The list goes on...... Best GM in baseball. Best front office in baseball. As long as they are here- the Marlins can win it all ANY year. I forgot to add- he picked up Cody Ross (22 HR) and Jorge Cantu (29 HR and 2 this year) OFF THE SCRAP HEAPS! HE IS THE MAN!
April 8, 200917 yr but will marlins trade Uggla by trade deadline or next season remember their was talk about this doing offseason
April 8, 200917 yr Author Heck yes we will trade Uggla! He plays bad defense, is approaching 30, and he will be on the decline! Beinfest will get 2 good prospects for him to continue his genius trades. Not to mention, he trades Jason Vargas and Bostick for Matt Lindstrom! hahahaha

April 8, 200917 yr you had me until right about here... He doesn't bait on Manny Ramirez for Michael Stanton swap and now Stanton is Gammons favorite minor leaguer. so? :lol
April 8, 200917 yr Beinfest AND Hill AND Fleming AND Jennings AND more. Going to be hard to keep such incredible talent, but the recent pay raises and expansion of responsibilities helped. Hopefully with just compensation, they'll stick around. The challenge of crafting a winner out of the Marlins is far more interesting of a job than head GM at the other 29 clubs.
April 8, 200917 yr The main thing going forward is how good and deep our recent drafts have been. I don't know if the award of improvement goes to Beinfest or Flemmings, but we don't just have a great front-5 or whatever number it is, we also have great depth.
April 8, 200917 yr Ya gotta give some credit to Orrin Freeman (and the entire scouting division) He's probably been with the Marlins longer than anyone else. I first met him in '98 but I know he had already been with the team for quite some time.
April 8, 200917 yr Beinfest isn't even our GM. But yeah, he has done an incredible job. You know how in boxing a guy can be the best 'pound for pound' fighter? Well, I think Beinfest is the best 'dollar for dollar' executive in the game. He does the best job with the resources he's given.
April 8, 200917 yr i really wish owens had stayed healthy and that trade wouldve been even better than it already. I hope he comes back strong. BTW does the 50 game suspension start from opening day even though hes in the minors??
April 8, 200917 yr i really wish owens had stayed healthy and that trade wouldve been even better than it already. I hope he comes back strong. BTW does the 50 game suspension start from opening day even though hes in the minors?? Counted quickly but it looks like May 31st (against ironically the Mets) Owens would be eligible to rejoin the team (if of course he's healthy and performing at a level that would warrant him being called up). Here's an interesting (at least to me) question. How does MLB count games? Is it scheduled games? Games played? What about rain-outs, etc.? I personally have no idea the answer.
April 8, 200917 yr Matt Lindstrom was the 2nd best pitcher in that trade, at the time it was made. I knew that was a steal the second it happened. Jason "Rip My Nargas" Vargas was never a favorite of mine. I used to hate his constant nibbling on the mound.
April 8, 200917 yr We can't forget about getting Urbina from the Rangers. Although we did give up Adrian Gonzalez who turned out to be quite good ... we're not world series champs without Urbina. Also, the Red Sox aren't world champions without Beckett and Lowell. It's always nice when trades benefit both teams.
April 8, 200917 yr The Urbina trade could be a loss just because we could have given them stokes and still gotten Urbina, but hindsight is 20/20.
April 8, 200917 yr The Urbina trade could be a loss just because we could have given them stokes and still gotten Urbina, but hindsight is 20/20. Exactly. At the time, Stokes was considered the second-best offensive prospect in the game only behind the "I almost got 200 Million" Texiera.
April 9, 200917 yr Author 3 games is way too much of a sample size to get excited about emilio. I disagree with you. His energy alone along with our starting pitching pretty much swept the Nationals by themselves. For what we gave up, Olsen (a #4-5 pitcher) and Willingham who will never be a 130 game player again because of his back, it was a great move. Saved money too.
April 9, 200917 yr I dont agree with the title... I do agree with the fact that Bienfest is a genius though. Its too early to call us "good", but yeah... Bienfest is an impaired GM who makes the best out of every situation.

Yeah, Ricky, but you gotta believe that Beinfest & Co. are tired of having Samson/Loria pull out carefully placed pieces of a championship team puzzle like they're playing Jenga. You know that they would have loved to have kept Waechter and Nelson from last year's team... Ditto on keeping Derrek Lee (whom we traded for Hee Seop Choi, ugh).
