April 15, 200917 yr ATLANTA -- Monday Night Football is impacting the Marlins. On Tuesday night, the Marlins announced they are switching their Sept. 21 game with the Phillies to July 16 at Dolphin Stadium. The change comes to accommodate the Miami Dolphins, the primary tenant at the stadium. Tickets issued for the Sept. 21 game will be honored on July 16. The Dolphins will be playing a Monday night game on Sept. 21 at home against the Indianapolis Colts. What the change means for the Marlins is they will gain an off-day in late September. But instead of a three-game set with their NL East rival Phillies, that series now will be two games. The change impacts Florida's final homestand. The Marlins will now have a five-game homestand at Dolphin Stadium from Sept. 22-27 against the Phillies and Mets. New York will be in town Sept. 25 for the first of three games. Moving the game to July 16 means the Marlins will have a three-day break for the All-Star Game. Before the switch, it was going to be four days. Now, Florida will face the Phillies in a four-game set at Dolphin Stadium from Sept. 16-19. The Sept. 16 game will be at 7:10 p.m. ET. The All-Star Game is set for July 14 in St. Louis. The Marlins share Dolphin Stadium with the Miami Dolphins and the University of Miami football team. In 2012, the Marlins will be moving into their own park, a 37,000-seat, retractable-roof facility on the Orange Bowl grounds in the Little Havana section of Miami. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...sp&c_id=fla
April 15, 200917 yr I was thrilled to read this. A bit of good fortune for the Fish but I'm afraid with the rainy season coming (and hopefully nothing worse) that day off will probably get cannibalized before the summer is over.

Going by our postponement history, I would have to say I doubt it. Unless it is a postponed game at another ballpark. In that case, and if the game would mean something in the standings, I would think that off day in Sept will get used up. I'm still waiting for someone to post the stats on that topic. Where we stand for open air facilities in MLB for rain (snow) delays and postponed games. I just can't find it. And I'm not about to purchase the media guide for every open air team in MLB, which is where I get my info on ours. I gotta believe we are more towards the middle of the pack or lower. For the most part it rains in the afternoons here, not so much in the evenings. And this year even alot of the Sunday games have been moved to 5:00 starts for some reason. The excuse of not going to games because of rain is misused. It should be because of the threat of rain. In a place where it can be raining accross the street and not at my house. Not that I don't understand why a family would be hesitant, I'm just saying.....

BTW Nice Reggie quote on Ryan. But my fav is still, "He could throw his fastball through a car wash and it wouldn't get wet."
April 15, 200917 yr Nolan Ryan is so underappreciated for pitcher he was and yeah I love that one. Too bad he didn't spend more of his career with compeittive teams. As for the rain-out, I will forever remember the havoc hurricanes had with the Marlins schedule a few years back that had them playing home games in Chicago and what was it 35 days in a row, effectively ending their playoff chances that season. I believe the Marlins lead baseball in delays (although not postponements). Could be wrong on that but seems to me I just heard this in the last couple of weeks.

I did too. I can't remember who, but either Rich, Tommy, or Craig said this on the Marlins Live before Opening Day when they were talking about the new ballpark.
April 15, 200917 yr Nolan Ryan is unappreciated? His fastball had a nickname! He had the 2nd highest HOF vote percentage ever! I think it is safe to say he's appreciated fine.

His W/L numbers are low compared to his other records, which have led some to discredit him Some even want to call him over-rated... which led Marlins2003 to say that he is under-appreciated (by some baseball aficionados). Presumably, if he had been on better clubs, his W/L would have been better. Does not explain why he walked so many batters, though.
