November 16, 200322 yr rap is one of those things where people are gonna laugh at 20 years from now....like disco. It may be cool now...but hilarious to watch 30 year olds listening to it. And rap is also (like yenta said) lacking of classics...I mean, it makes people sick when they hear a song that is a year or 2 old. No one looks cool cruisin in their Nissan Sentra listening to DMX "Party Up".

No one looks cool cruisin in their Nissan Sentra listening to DMX "Party Up". I dislike Rap but come on... Rap has been a top seller for close to 20 years now and unlike other genre's it sale's have remained solid, Country has and never will be the same again now that Garth, Brook's and Dunn either don't make albums anymore or they just don't get play. Alan Jackson is really the only country artist anymore who can sell over 4 million copies of his new stuff while Rap still cruises along.
November 16, 200322 yr im not very big on the whole exploitng a dead artist thing BUT i cant say i havent enjoyed listening to quite a few of the new after death releases. and the new songs produced by "b rabbit" for the movie are really good.
November 17, 200322 yr you can listen to a country song from a few years ago (say Somethin Like That by Tim McGraw) and everyone will sing along. Listen to a rap song from a couple years ago (say I'm Real by Ja Rule and Jennifer Lopez) and everyone groans.
November 17, 200322 yr show me a survey or something stating this. truth be, country sux. none of the places with big populations like it. only the southerners with pickup trucks and farms. that mean probably the majority of the population dont like country much, b/c most of the population is in cities.

Ignorance at it's finest.

Listen to a rap song from a couple years ago (say I'm Real by Ja Rule and Jennifer Lopez) and everyone groans. ok, lets get one thing straight buddy. Ja Rule is not the type of rapper REAL hip hop fans like. i am actually a fan of both hip hop and rock i keep an open mind on all music but i am the first to say something sucks ( Ja Rule ) if you truly think rap will fade out like disco im sorry.
November 17, 200322 yr it wont fade out like disco, i guess. I mean it's been around longer than disco. But I don't see rap staying around and being timeless...like country. I mean, my grandparents listened to country. And so do I. I can't see my grandkids listening to rap.
November 17, 200322 yr you may have a point of YOUR grandkids not listening but seriously the basics of rap have been along alot longer then people realize and it has evolved over the generations. it will keep living and hopefully get alot better then the sorry state of "PoP rap" that we are suffering through now.
November 17, 200322 yr alright. then maybe we are getting somewhere. Pop rap will continue to suck. "Real" rap will continue for awhile I think. But, I would definitely include 50 cent, and a lot of what is played on radio stations and MTV to be pop rap. Tupac...I'm not a big fan of, but it is real rap. It will continue. Just look at how popular he is after he has died (kind of like Lynyrd Skynyrd or the Doors or Nirvana or Sublime). But, I dont think this popular rap will survive. It will morph into something totally different, I believe.
November 17, 200322 yr Furman, basically rap or "hip hop" as the MAN wants us to call it :lol is the evolution of the original jazz and the basics will never change or die out. the thing that worries me is when talented rappers ( like 50 ) realize that the more you give the 14 year old white girls that watch TRL poppy jump rap songs the more money you get. now dont get me wrong 50 is NOT the worst of doing this but no matter what anyone sais he is aiming at making his money now because you never know how long you can last.
November 20, 200322 yr omg what is this? u all are philosofers? rap philosofy lol "oh my word! Heaven forbid we speak of 'philosofy'! I might get a headache!~"
