May 21, 200917 yr There is an argument. You are pissed because they only gave him 36 at bats, but in those 36 at bats he hit .216/.250/.194! Why should he of gotten more at bats after that abysmal performance? Because of hindsight where he was having a decent year in AAA? As far as Sanchez talent, no one thinks Gaby has the talent you think he has. You are in a world of your own. Statistically, projection, scouts...no one thinks Gaby Sanchez is as anywhere near as good as you do. This has been pointed out time and again. It aint just me so much as everyone who has ever debated you on the topic.
May 21, 200917 yr He beat out Dallas and Gaby (don't even understand the point of bringing up how Dallas did in ST, as nobody is or even did argue that he looked good). In order to lose something (which Gaby did, his job at first base), there needs to be competition. You cannot lose or win something without competition. The starting position was a competition between Gaby, Emilio, and Dallas. The positions were different, yes, but we're talking about just starting, not winning a position. You're saying that it wasn't a competition because Gaby lost 1b, and emilio beat Dallas for 3b. But, transitive property. Emilio doesn't get to have a competition at third base without Gaby doing poor, ergo, him and Gaby were competing. No. We should be talking about position. 1B was Gaby's to lose. Go back to the articles from the Winter and Spring and that's exactly what was being said. But if you want to look at it that way, Cantu beat out Gaby, Boni beat out Dallas. Until Gaby completely failed, Boni was trying out for a bench player. That's why he was getting time at other positions during Winter Ball. To help make him a more viable option for the bench. When it became obvious Gaby wasn't going to make it (and I tend to think the coaches and FO knew that going in and were just hoping the best for Gaby), then it became competition for the 3B job as it was well known Cantu was going to 1B. Gaby was already going to go down to AAA to work on things.
May 21, 200917 yr Neither Gaby nor Dallas were beat out of anything, they "lost", and that isn't even the right term, they underperformed so profoundly neither gave the front office any reason to consider placing them on the active roster. EB was in the equation because he put himself in a position for consideration, go back and read the ST daily reports etc., the first two would not have made any roster in baseball regardless of anyone else in camp. That's probably a good way to put it.

It aint just me so much as everyone who has ever debated you on the topic. I'm more with Spike on this one. Watching Gaby the past couple years, (and for that matter Coghlin as well) I never saw anything that said this kid is ready for the big leagues. I could care in the least what their minor league numbers are. Going up against guys that won't ever make it to the bigs, or in AAA, guys that are sent down to work on a specific pitch or two. And that's just talking about their offensive numbers. Neither one ever showed anything that resembled marking them as Stars Of The Near Future with their gloves in ST. Chris overcame that by learning a new position or two, making him a more valuable team player. Kinda along the lines of what Counsel did once he got to the D'Backs.
May 21, 200917 yr Arguing with Marlins1 about Gaby is like trying to tell an 8 year kid from the mid to late 90s why the Power Rangers suck.

May 21, 200917 yr I am saying your logic is not sound. Once again you add player of the week nods, 4 to be exact, and that is asinine. There are mediocre players that win those awards alot, you just need a good week. Being a New York Penn League all star is also not very impressive when you factor in that he was 22 years old at the time in a league full of 18-19 year olds. And now scouts arent quality assessors or talent? Because they dont agree with you about Gaby? NO ONE agrees with you about Gaby. You are right, Chris Coghlan shouldnt be compared to Gaby Sanchez. Coghlan was having a better year in New Orleans(OPS 69 points higher, OBP 4 points higher, SLG 35 points higher). Chris Coghlan is a middle infielder whos career(a career in which he has advanced faster than Sanchez) lines are comparable to Sanchez, a corner infielder. Coghlan is one of the top rated players at his position in baseball, Gaby isnt even the top rated 1B in the Marlins organization. I am still waiting for your justification for Gaby getting more at bats in spring training when he was abysmally awful in the 36 he had. Give me something, anything, that is a valid point, something you have never made.

Give me something, anything, that is a valid point, something you have never made. I'll do this because I know that in Patoka, Illinois you only know about Hockey or your a Cubs fan .when you take a player any player and hit him 1 day yes and 1 day off it's very hard to get going and more in spring when you been off all summer you need to play everyday and get as many at bats as possible and 2 game can change the average from .216 to .300 real quick when you have 35AB ,when you are establish player ST is nothing more than practice time and # don't matter. that's why a veteran that comes of the bench and can hit is valuable to a team and gets 1 million a year Helms. Compare thats why Sanchez was MVP ,in Baseball That's Most Valuable Player get it.and your right again is not the top rated 1B he is the 1B the Marlins have.Get ready to kiss ass pretty soon.anyway how does a guy like you from Patoka, Illinois is so involve in Miami Marlins.I think you get a kick on aggravating fans of the Marlins.I think this forum should kick you out. I think Sanchez # talk for them self and he doesn't need me defending him. by the way so next time you know most N.Y.Penn league is first year college players drafted JRs.and SRs age 21 for Gaby and a mediocre can get lucky and win it.but not 4 times and the rest, come admit it you love him.
May 21, 200917 yr He isnt the 1B the Marlins have. Cantu is the 1B the Marlins have. Logan Morrison is progressing fast(despite the current injury), so is Mike Stanton. If the team keeps Hermida, that should worry you. That means Gaby Sanchez is the odd man out. Also, as has been pointed out, Sanchez didnt play 1 game/sit the next as you state in spring training. He started the first 7 games of Spring Training and was terrible. To your point about Sanchez being established, he is not. He has been a decent prospect(despite a bad year during his stop at Jupiter), but has also been too old for every level. You think Gaby Sanchez is a MVP type player. Most think he is a light hitting 1B whos a stop gap for Morrison(if it even comes to that...it might be a natural bridge from Cantu to Morrison). You are literally the only person in the world who thinks Sanchez is as good as you think he is. As for being aggravating...no one on this board has ever agreed with you about Gaby Sanchez. No one. That have all told you repeatedly your views on Gaby Sanchez are laughable, that you have never made a legitimate point to back up your opinion. People have showed you scouts takes on him, and the general consensus on Gaby is the same by all those who have seen him...little power, decent glove at 1B, glove is plain bad anywhere else, bat likely wont play at 1B...yet you tell everyone they are wrong. To you, the consensus is wrong and you are right. People have been telling you for 2 years how absurd you are yet you dont give up. I might have too often stated my views on Mitre and Olivo, but I actually had something to back up my stance. The only thing you have ever given to back up your incredibly head scratching logic is your opinion. So I find it funny that you of all people have the nerve to call anyone aggravating when you have been sticking to the same shtick for 2 years with literally no one at all agreeing with you and in fact disproving your stances rather easily the entire time.

May 21, 200917 yr LOL, you are just silly. No one has ever agreed with you. I have actually backed up everything I have ever said about Sanchez(and for the record, I nor anyone else has ever really said anything bad about him, just that hes not as good as you and you alone think he is). I backed up what I said about Olivo(which, really, few people really disagreed about him), I backed up everything I said about Mitre as well with stats. Rabbethan has already posted Sanchez's playing time at the start of ST. I believe him over you, mostly because he has no reason to fudge the truth. You however have never produced one shred of anything that backs up your stance. Ever. When people make counter arguments and actually have something to augment their point, you ignore it and just say you are wrong.
