Thank you so much for making this thread and giving me some hope. :) 2012 can't get here soon enough and Uggla/Ross/Hermida/Bonifacio can't get out of the starting lineup soon enough.

I don't know why Baker is excluded from all these lists. He's a great hitting catcher. Skipworth has struggled so much in the minors.

My worry about him is that he'll be 31 by then, dude's old.

Now that we're (hopefully)out of the steroid era, we're likely going to see players breaking down in their mid to early 30's again. And, being a catcher, that might be on his head aswell. You don't see too many good hitting catchers over 30.

*Cough* Bengie Molina *Cough*

Maybin CF

Coghlan 2B

Hanley SS

Morrison 1B

Stanton RF

Skippworth C

Dominguez 3B

Ross/Hermida/Raynor/Cousins LF

There are a lot more options now that Morrison and Coghlan are practicing in the OF which could give Gaby Sanchez a chance at 1B but its better to keep them at there original positions

Personally, I'd be surprised if Hanley is our SS. Not saying he won't be with the club.

Right, just because somebody's old doesn't mean they can't hit. Yogi Berra played until he was 40 (well, kinda), Fisk until 45. But it doesn't work in their favor either. You can't say every pitcher is going to play until he's in his upper 40's because Moyer is doing it, or every hitting is going to play until he's 49 cuz Franco did it. There are people who break the norm, but you can't count on that happening.

Stanton is going to be a beast

true, Hanley is a candidate for 3rd, but with Dominguez in the waiting that cannot happen. There has been a lot of talk about Hanley in the outfield when he gets to big (bulk wise)

Outfield. IMO he lacks the concentration, discipline and fundamentals to be a great infielder. He does make some great circus plays, but unfortunately some of his plays that should be routine end up looking like circus plays.

There was talk about this recently in the Sun-Sentinel and on this forum. Comparisons were made to A. Soriano, who used to play 2nd for the Yanks (and the Rangers, I think)

Soriano was also HORRIBLE at 2b though, where as Hanley (outside of his bat-sh*t bad 2007) was rate average to slightly below average.

Now, by 2012, he'll be older, less ranger. I definitely don't want us to have a Derek Jeter there, a previous good fielder who's now a shell of himself. Guy's defense goes to sh*t when they hit their 30's. He'll be 28 then.

Yea, Hanley isn't that bad at D. Although his age will inhibit him even more than other players, due to the extent to which he relies on his athleticism to compensate for a lack of fundamentals.

He's been solid defensively this year. He's made all the routine plays and it seems like almost all his throws hit Cantu in the chest, unlike previous years.

If I see Hermida on this team beyond this season, someone's gonna die.
