May 20, 200915 yr Just say no outside trades are made and all the players are from our system... what do you think our 2012 Opening Day lineup will look like?  Thank you so much for making this thread and giving me some hope. 2012 can't get here soon enough and Uggla/Ross/Hermida/Bonifacio can't get out of the starting lineup soon enough.
May 20, 200915 yr I don't know why Baker is excluded from all these lists. He's a great hitting catcher. Skipworth has struggled so much in the minors.

Skipworth has struggled so much in the minors.  My worry about him is that he'll be 31 by then, dude's old. Now that we're (hopefully)out of the steroid era, we're likely going to see players breaking down in their mid to early 30's again. And, being a catcher, that might be on his head aswell. You don't see too many good hitting catchers over 30.

May 20, 200915 yr Maybin CF Coghlan 2B Hanley SS Morrison 1B Stanton RF Skippworth C Dominguez 3B Ross/Hermida/Raynor/Cousins LFÂ There are a lot more options now that Morrison and Coghlan are practicing in the OF which could give Gaby Sanchez a chance at 1B but its better to keep them at there original positions
May 20, 200915 yr Personally, I'd be surprised if Hanley is our SS. Not saying he won't be with the club.

Yogi Berra played until he was 40 (well, kinda), Fisk until 45. But it doesn't work in their favor either. You can't say every pitcher is going to play until he's in his upper 40's because Moyer is doing it, or every hitting is going to play until he's 49 cuz Franco did it. There are people who break the norm, but you can't count on that happening.

May 20, 200915 yr Personally, I'd be surprised if Hanley is our SS. Not saying he won't be with the club. Where do you think he might be? Outfield. IMO he lacks the concentration, discipline and fundamentals to be a great infielder. He does make some great circus plays, but unfortunately some of his plays that should be routine end up looking like circus plays. There was talk about this recently in the Sun-Sentinel and on this forum. Comparisons were made to A. Soriano, who used to play 2nd for the Yanks (and the Rangers, I think)

I definitely don't want us to have a Derek Jeter there, a previous good fielder who's now a shell of himself. Guy's defense goes to sh*t when they hit their 30's. He'll be 28 then.

Although his age will inhibit him even more than other players, due to the extent to which he relies on his athleticism to compensate for a lack of fundamentals.

He's made all the routine plays and it seems like almost all his throws hit Cantu in the chest, unlike previous years.
