The "Bust"! But another great start for JJ

His numbers don't look gaudy (lack of wins), but I'd be disappointed to see JJ not earn an all-star bid if he turns in another solid month. He's pitched well enough to win in every start this year that I can remember.

He had one bad outing only...JJ is a superstud!

Why were David Wright Luis Castillo and Gary Sheflied out of the lineup Saturday Sure made it easier for Johnson.

Not really. He was sick during the game, and still dominated.

I know there are a lot of people who like Lindstrom on this board, and I respect that opinion, but at what point do you take him out of the closer's role?

People complained last year about Gregg's wildness (including myself)...right now, Lindstrom is only worse.

He's also, easily, the most frustrating player on this team. At least to me he is. The reason why is b/c from observation, he is really nasty. But fact is, he has trouble putting hitters away, and it always leads to the same things with him...inconsistency.

Say what you will, but as of right now, our closer looks more like the 5th best reliever on the team. I guess it just goes to show how overrated the closer's role can be.

They should take him out right now and replace him immediately. This way someone else can come in and suck it up, then we can make excuses for why he is sucking, and if he still sucks 2 months into it he can always be the goat even when he doesn't play for the Marlins again.

Lindstrom has been in the league for a little over 2 years now and this is his first year in the "closers role." The pressure in the 9th, I'm sure, has something to do with his inconsistency.

Fifth best reliever on the team that is awesome!!!!

Kiko Calero career: 3.44 era 1.21 whip 266 innings 286 strikeouts

Dan Meyer career: 5.96 era 1.49 whip 68 innings 56 strikeouts

Brian Sanches career: 5.40 era 1.63 whip 53 innings 46 strikeouts

Leo Nunez career: 4.74 era 1.38 whip 184 innings 122 strikeouts

Hayden Penn career: 8.69 era 2.05 whip 78 innings 52 strikeouts

Matt Lindstrom career: 3.49 era 1.42 whip 144 innings 124 strikeouts

His career era includes his current era of 6.10. We all know that his era will continue to go down so I disagree with you that he is the fifth best reliever on the team. If you are talking about this year alone then yes, but, he has proven the last two years (because of consistency) that he deserves a shot, however, this year he has been anything but consistent. We have all seen that he can be nasty at times and frustrating too. If he gets consistent then the ball club is that much better. It's too bad that we don't know what we are going to get in the 9th when he comes in, but you know what, neither do the Phillies right now (oh and for those who read way into things I am in no way comparing Matt Lindstrom and Brad Lidge-there is no comparison).

Sure, take him out, but if you are a Marlins fan you hope that Lindstrom will get back to his old ways because he has done very good up until that 7 run ninth against Philly. Since then he has cut his era almost in half.

Why is the closers role overrated? If it's so overrated then why is it talked about so often?

Hermida and JJ were great. I was really impressed with Coghlan's plate discipline, the way he worked 3 walks. Bonifacio seems (today at least) better suited to be a number 2 hitter. And Lindstrom continues to confuse me with his inconsistency.

I thought the time had come to move him further down in the line up. But I do like the reasoning to have him batting second. Puts him in position to be able to score when other players wouldn't. Let's see if these two can keep this up. Right now 1-4 looks good this way. 5-8 will change according to has the hot bat and who is catching. Lindy confuses you? I get the same feeling with him that I do with Pinto. It is not a comfortable feeling.

"As of right now" is what I said. As of right now, Dan Meyer, Kiko Calero, and Leo Nunez all look better, and Brian Sanches doesn't look all that bad, either, in a short sample.

And the closer's role is overrated...it's the reason why Kevin Gregg makes what he makes, while Lindstrom currently makes peanuts. Come arbritration time, saves are more valuable than anything else, which is sad, considering often times, a closer isn't even the best reliever on his own team. As is the case here...Kiko is the best reliever on this team.

As of right now was skipped over when I read your post. I will read more carefully next time. It's a long season and I would bet Lindstrom will be top three in the bullpen before the season is done.

Overrated if you are not in the closers role, but that's where you want to be if you are n the back end of the bullpen because like you said if you want to get paid, you better be the man in the ninth. Let's not get it twisted either, it's all about making money in this league and that is what every player in baseball is trying to do. The added pressure of arbitration and free agent years makes it that more difficult to perform.

It desn't look like they will take him out too soon because the article today was about him "learning as he goes." I wouldn't even care if they did closer by committee until someone locks it down. Just as long as we win I could care less.
