Because in August of last year, the month we need to do well in to have a chance to make the playoffs, he choked. He blew something like 4 saves( and had NINE the entire year). He completely choked. Then we put Lindstrom in as our closer in September. He went 5 for 5 in Save chances. He can be a good reliever if he stays consistent. For him to be a consistent closer, he needs to pitch as a closer.

By comparison, Gregg converted his first 17 (remember when everybody used to call him "Superman?")

 

People hated Gregg b/c he walked so many people (I hated that too). My question is why is it people don't seem to hate Lindstrom's walks, as much? Y'know...he's almost walking 1 per inning this year.

 

Fact is, blown saves aren't everything. 2-3 of Gregg's blown saves last year don't happen, if not for the Marlins piss-poor defense.

 

He was an average reliever in his time here, just like Lindstrom has been (up until this year...his first full year closing).

Wasn't Lindstrom pitching so bad last year, at one point, that the organization had to send him down to the minors? What's the difference? That's my question.

 

Comparing him to relievers like Gregg...Lindstrom has proven nothing. And yet, Gregg was hated so much on here...Lindstrom, not so much.

1. Lindstrom's track record, basically, says he's average...nothing more. If you didn't like the job Kevin Gregg did, I don't see why you'd expect something different (as in, better) from Lindstrom. Go to baseballreference, and maybe you can tell me something that I should be really optimistic about, regarding his past #'s b/c I really don't see it. There's nothing that really suggests that he'll be better than a Kevin Gregg.
