July 17, 200916 yr It's ERA. I think the bullpen will be great going forward after we've filtered out the crap but fact still remains the thread is about how the bullpen, as a whole, has done. You can't just take out the outings of the crap pitchers and ignore them. They happened, they're runs giving up by the bullpen, and they've effected games. I would think ERA would be best, well actually runs against best but that's not here or there, because it the end it matters how many runs you give up. If we're talking about future success, then yeah, era isn't good.

If we're talking about future success, then yeah, era isn't good. I understand your point of view but I'm just saying to try and put the crap outings into context. When the back end of the bullpen has been pretty darn good at translating leads into wins, that has to count a lot more than if Hayden Penn gave up 6 runs in a blowout game.
July 18, 200916 yr I don't get how people can give the bullpen an A-/B+. I don't get how people can give the bullpen a low grade, to be honest with you. Hayden Penn, Christian Martinez, Chris Leroux, Logan Kensing, etc. are no longer here. The important guys in our pen have done the job. (except for Lindstrom, who was inconsistent...but at the end of the day, he cost us a game...and no, this isn't an argument I like to use...but for team purposes, it is true). But the thread is grade the first half. Not how will they do going forward. Our bullpen is 9th out of 16 in the NL. so if 8 = exactly a C as C = average, I'd say bullpen would get a C. I'm just saying though, the backend (important) part of the pen has done its job. As someone said, I could care less if Hayden Penn gave up 6 runs in a blowout game. Not to mention he's no longer here. I get what you're saying, but bullpen ERA can be deceiving.
