August 8, 200916 yr Don't you just need some MLB playing time to make the post season? Shouldn't his april/may allow him to play? Ok, after doing some research I've found out (I think) that the rules were changed in 2007 and again in 2008. A player now just has to be on the 40-man roster as of August 31st, not the 25-man. Also, before, a player replacing a DLed player had to play the same position (as Marlins2003 stated). This seems to no longer be true. Sadly there seems to be a lot of conflicting reports online due to the recent changes in the rules, but this is what I'm pretty sure is it.
