Well this is great news! Boni isn't starting! This calls for a fiesta!

I can dig it! I'm sure if the right offer came in they'd unload Uggla in a second but but it's nice to hear the plan is to keep him.

You can way his value to the team every which way, but from a purely PR standpoint trading Uggla would be a bad idea. The fans, in general, love the guy and 30HR/100(ish) RBI is tough to replace. Getting rid of him after the the whole MLBPA/revenue sharing issue, and the new stadium with public money blah blah, wouldn't be met with much praise from Joe sports fan down here.

If he can bump his average back up, even to just the .270 range, it would be HUGE. That and a full season of the real Ricky Nolasco, not that impostor that was sent down to the minors last year, and we're looking good.

This doesn't stop them from moving Cantu to first and playing Bonifacio at third.

Samson backtracked when pressed by Le Batard. He said that Uggla will be with the Marlins, but if Fredi wants to play him at 3rd, then people will call him a liar. So, he clarified that Uggla will be on the team but not necessarily at 2nd base.

I was hoping for coghlan to start at 2nd but oh well, i guess its for the best even if

i wanted to cut his head off sometimes last year.

Yep. Gaby Sanchez, Jorge Jimenez, and Logan Morrison. It's up to you.

But to be honest, I'm pretty optimistic with the team not bringing back Amezaga, and the only camp competition is like, Hector Luna. I would really enjoy a L/R platoon with Jimenez and Gaby splitting time. Maybe sneak EB in their once a week.

I would rather see Chad Tracy platooning with Sanchez. I don't think he would cost too much to sign either because there are a lot of better 1B than him still left on the free agent market.

A Jimenez/Gaby platoon could be pretty nice. Gaby's going to mash LHP (I would guess something like .300/.380/.480 vs LHP given that he's been a consistent 1.000 bat vs LHP in the minors) and Jimenez could be like .285/.350/.430 vs RHP. I mean, he's had sh*t power all throughout his minor league career except for this past season, so maybe he can develop a little against RHP. But those seem realistic, and I would be pretty happy. It would probably be below average for 1B in the majors, but it keeps Logan down and doesn't kill us.

If he gets back to 2007, sure. But he hasn't hit anyone of any hand since 07.

That's because he has been hurt.

We really don't have the bench space to platoon anyone with Gaby. If someone platoons, it's Helms.

Helms and Sanchez are both righties. Contrary to popular views you don't need a 12 or 13 man pitching staff. There is room for another player on the roster.

Right, I meant if someone is platooning, it's Helms, not Sanchez. I agree you don't need a 12 man staff but there's almost no way they have a sustained staff under 12 pitchers.

Our bench as of now is probably

Paulino

Helms

Carroll

With the last two spots going to

Back up MI

Lefty corner bat

There's certainly still ways to get Gaby there (i.e. Carroll not being the back up OFer, but instead the lefty corner bat, and then making back up MI you're back up CF like Alfredo was), but that would require several other players that can fit specific roles.

Phenomenal news there. Not only is it great to know that one of our best players is going to be back with the team, it was also nice that he wasn't traded in what was apparently a below-average trade market, in a deal that probably wouldn't have netted a guy who could bring back half the impact that a 2nd basemen with 30 hr, 90-100 RBI power can provide. And even if Uggla's personal trade value falls a little bit, this in addition to the other news we've gotten this off-season will only increase the team's leverage in trade negotiations, so hopefully no more practical give-aways of starting caliber players.

my think was that their was no good trade for uggla so marlins want ahead sign him now samson say we will keep him for season but if we not race by all star i think he be gone if their any good trade out their
