January 28, 201016 yr Yankees Reach Agreement With Randy Winn By Tim Dierkes [January 27, 2010 at 2:39pm CST] The Yankees reached an agreement with outfielder Randy Winn on a one-year deal, reports Joel Sherman of the New York Post. SI's Jon Heyman tweets that the deal is worth $2MM. The Winn signing definitively closes the door on Johnny Damon, tweets Sherman. Winn, 35, slipped to .262/.318/.353 in 597 plate appearances for the Giants last year (including a brutal 125 PAs against lefties). His corner outfield defense still rates well; that was probably the draw for Yankees GM Brian Cashman. http://www.mlbtrader...randy-winn.html World Series Number 28 here they come Anyone else think Damon now might sign with the Red Soxs?
January 28, 201016 yr i don't think he signs with the red sox. the braves make the most sense since they need a leadoff hitter and outfielder.

Craig Calcaterra of NBCSports.com says that the Braves have discussed Johnny Damon recently, but came up with three reasons why he wasn't a fit. Source http://www.mlbtrader...amon-upton.html Red Soxs need another OF Bat and thats what he is, he'll probably have another 20+ Homerun season in Fenway and play LF if he decides to go, I think he's a good fit.

January 28, 201016 yr Author so who do you bench in the outfield....cameron, ellsbury, or drew???? I forgot they had Cameron and Hall, but you can dump the 28 mil left in Drews contract and trade him for some relief pitching or prospects and sign Damon. It's fine if they don't but Damon could be a better asset then Drew. A Few teams Damon could fit in with are: Blue Jays, Rays, Tigers, A's, Nationals, maybe Cards with there lack of OF depth, Reds or San Diego.
January 28, 201016 yr Author Oh yeah, RANDY WINN is going to set them over the top. Well you're right they were stacked before they got him but the fact that he's a starter on probably 80 percent of Major League teams and he'll be coming of the bench and getting spot starts for them puts it over the top a little bit more.

January 28, 201016 yr World Series Number 28 here they come You realize Winn is a considerable downgrade from Damon, right? This is a serious head-scratching move for the Yankees. They still have a great team, but Randy Winn is not going to be the reason...

I know what you're saying, this was better than their alternative, but this is worse than what they had last year.

I know what you're saying, this was better than their alternative, but this is worse than what they had last year. Right. This is what I was getting at. And I say head scratching because the Yankees wanted/needed Damon, and Damon wanted to be a Yankee. I think the two sides were very stubborn in their demands. If they compromised and worked something out, both sides would have been happy.
