November 14, 200322 yr According to reports he was canned after WQAM got tired of telling him to tone it down. He has not joined any other radio station yet. :thumbdown WQAM should just dump sports/talk and go back to oldies/country/sports.
November 14, 200322 yr I heard him once and he made me want to go gargle some water but enjoy the fact he was so pro-marlins back in June.
November 14, 200322 yr he was the best the station had (besides neil, who's past his prime anyway). since he got there the ratings more than doubled. stupid them.
November 14, 200322 yr he was the best the station had (besides neil, who's past his prime anyway). since he got there the ratings more than doubled. stupid them. NEIL?? He sucks a**. All he does is talk stupid s***. Pharell was a little bit easier to listen to but his voice was freakin annoying. They should dump neil.
November 14, 200322 yr Author dump neil, the guy has nothing to offer listeners. He gets cheap laughs off people who can't even respond to him. I say WQAM should return to country music, with some oldies, and the sports play-by-play like it used to be instead of the monster it is. Or better yet, just go ESPN Radio like WMVP in Chicago. That way you look credible somewhat and get the play-by-play teams to stay because of the name.
November 14, 200322 yr yawn.... Ferrell & Neil got the best ratings of anyone on the station. Ferrell was even competing with Howard Stern's morning numbers. He just couldn't manage to tone his show down enough. People who want to listen to callers cry about why the 4th string linebacker isn't starting for the Dolphins makes for terrible radio. Neil gets the highest ratings of anyone on the station in men's demographics. He won't be leaving anytime soon, sorry to break it to you.
November 14, 200322 yr Ya im aware he gets good ratings but I dont know why. When my cuzin picks me up from skool at 1:30 they have the dumbass neil rogers on. I cant stand it. Its a bunch of s***, fart noises stupid songs. You gotta have an IQ of -15 to even enjoy that s***. Ya i wish we had ESPN radio down here. I WANT IT!!! :angry
November 14, 200322 yr Author WQAM's non-play-by-play ratings are about as good as Classic Music outlet WKAT 1360. They suck, put on ESPN Radio and the local play-by-play and put those classless and talentless jerks on the street.
November 14, 200322 yr Is it against FCC rules or sumthin to have 2 stations that have sports talk all the time or sumthin. Why doesnt another station broadcast ESPN radio like 910 or 610?
November 14, 200322 yr Author fcc cannot do anything about formats. Miami's 610 is a newsradio and Miami has no 910 am, 940 carries Fox Sports Radio. Tampa has 2 sportsradio stations and some markets have up to four.
November 14, 200322 yr we dont have 910 lol must be confused. But there is another station that talks sports sumtimes too which is that one?
November 14, 200322 yr Author only sports stations in miami are 560 and 940. 940 is Fox Sports Radio, 610 carries Heat games and 560 is affiliated with ESPN Radio for MLB games, Bowl games, and some programs for the weekends. 560 carries the Canes, Marlins, Fins, and Panthers.
November 14, 200322 yr 850am used to do espn & then foxsports radio...I think they don't have either now. It's called Live 85 now. Defo's got a good program on there.
November 14, 200322 yr Author WQAM may have to flip to ESPN Radio full-time or about 16 hours a day because of ratings and financial problems. Their Fort Myers sister-station WWCN 770 has already done this. they have three local talk shows which are nice: Thom Abraham in the mornings, Moulton in the afternoons and Cook on the drive home with sports play-by-play from local, regional, and national packages filling in other local time that ESPN grants them. the rest is ESPN Radio with Dan Patrick, Kornheiser, Pardon the Interruption replay on ESPN Radio and gamenight. It is very good, except local management doesn't air as many Marlins games as they should and air more Yankee games than anyone should. But with the Marlins winning, that will change.
November 14, 200322 yr 940 is Fox Sports Radio, 610 carries Heat games and 560 is affiliated with ESPN Radio for MLB games, Bowl games, and some programs for the weekends. 560 carries the Canes, Marlins, Fins, and Panthers. there we go 940 is what i meant. Ive been listening to it the last couple of week. lol i didnt know that it was a fox sports radio station. only sports stations in miami are 560 and 940. Ya i knew about 610 carrying Heat games and obviously about 560 carrying canes, marlins, fins and panthers.
November 14, 200322 yr Author 850 was in transition from Moneytalk radio and was not able to flip to ESPN radio format sucessfully because of WQAM holding the exclusive rights, but with ESPN Radio 760 being weaker they were able to get the Palm Beach County affiliation cause they don't compete with WQAM in Miami. WWCN has a 1.2 rating in Fort Myers with ESPN Radio most of the day, while "local" WQAM pulls in a 2.8 in Miami. The ratings difference vs. cost is not good for keeping WQAM with so many local shows for long. Don't be surprised to see Dan Patrick replace Ferral, and if the Morning guys continue to tank to see Mike and Mike in the Morning on WQAM from ESPN Radio. Cheaper and gets adequate ratings.
November 14, 200322 yr Author hey don't talk bad about the classical radio station. it rocks. i'm not bad mouthing WKAT, they get good ratings for an am classical music station without much power, WQAM is the one that really sucks.
November 14, 200322 yr Author Typical WQAM Lineup Time Program 5:00 - 8:00 AM The Howard David Show 8:00 - 10:00 AM Ferrall 10:00 - 2:00 PM The Neil Rogers Show 2:00 - 4:00 PM The Jim Mandich Show 4:00 - 7:00 PM The Hank Goldberg Show 7:00 - 7:30 PM Pre-game show 7:30 - 10:30 PM Marlins or Panthers Play-By-Play 10:30 - 2:00 AM Ed Kaplan 2:00 - 5:00 AM Joe & Marc Show Typical WWCN Lineup Line-Up MIKE & MIKE Mon-Fri 6a-7a -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tony Kornheiser 10AM - 12PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- THOM ABRAHAM SHOW Mon-Fri 7AM -10AM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- David Moulton Show Mon-Fri 12PM - 2PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Dan Patrick Show 2PM - 4PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chris Cook 4pm - 6pm -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Play-By-Play/ESPN Radio 6pm-6am
November 14, 200322 yr the problem with having ESPN radio on is it's not local. when the marlins are in the playoffs, i don't want to hear about the golden state warriors. when the panthers played the rangers last night, i want to hear how the game went in the morning. i don't want to hear 24-7 about the freaking Yankees. When the Dolphins are playing the Jets this weekend, that's what people down here want to talk about. There is no debate here. ESPN radio is fine, but I like having the local flavor that 560 or 940 brings. if you guys don't like 560 why don't you just listen to 940? their hosts aren't bad (if you can overlook the fact that the evening drive guy is a Yankees fan, but I can look past that since so are half the other people in this town). There is this great thing called variety. There's stations all up & down the radio dial for you to listen to. Country, oldies, rock, sports talk, news, I promise you south florida has all the basic station formats. see that dial on your radio? it turns!
November 14, 200322 yr Author Possible new WQAM lineup if they continue to tank. Time Program 6:00 - 10:00 AM Mike & Mike in the Morning 10:00 - 2:00 PM The Neil Rogers Show 2:00 - 4:00 PM The Jim Mandich Show (or Dan Patrick if Jim leaves to work on his construction company full time) 4:00 - 7:00 PM The Hank Goldberg Show 7:00 - 7:30 PM Pre-game show 7:30 - 10:30 PM Marlins or Panthers Play-By-Play 10:30 - 2:00 AM Ed Kaplan 2:00 - 5:00 AM Joe & Marc Show While losing local shows is usually leading to lower quality, in WQAM's case it would double quality easily. Sad, isn't it? Two models for a local ESPN Radio affiliate that works is the White Sow flagship WMVP-1000 in Chicago and the Angels flagship KSPN-710. Both do very well and have improved with ESPN Radio.
