The Marlins should be hitting ground balls and fly balls to the players. They are one of the worst defensive teams I have ever seen and it's going to cost them some games this season if it doesn't improve.

There's a reason they don't. Too many players on the field at once and too many things going to not have accidents happen when guys are teeing off on BP pitching.

That said, we've all thought the same thing many times as we watch their seeming never-ending ineptitude. Better to increase hours of defensive drills ala spring training so you have a controlled atmosphere. I would bet if Fredi started having the players come in an hour earlier everyday the Players Union would probably file a grievance. That's baseball.

The thing that bugs me isnt errors as a whole. Its the fact that they seem to come at the WORST possible times and almost always blows up in our faces. Its only been 4 games this year and I have no confidence in our sloppy defense in key situations.

Physical errors don't bother me that much. Guys booting grounders and throwing balls away is gonna happen. What kills me is mental errors like throwing to the wrong bag or trying to make throws all the way to a bag and missing the cut.

Bingo.

The problem is that many of the misplays have been mental errors. There have been at least two instances in the last four games where Hanley has thrown away a ball that he should have held because he had no chance. Last night Maybin should not have thrown that ball home that allowed the runner to take second base.

We have seen far too many flubs like this lately. Professionals shouldn't be doing these things.
