RIP Bob. I got him to sign a baseball in Cooperstown back in '03. He was rude to me because I had my Florida road jersey on and he was still bitter about losing the '97 Series.

He was truly one of the greats, he like so many others sacrificed a great deal for their country during WWII. He was one of the highlights of Spring Training for me every season when Cleveland was in Winter Haven. I was fortunate to get his autograph several times over the years, he will be missed.

They don't make them like him anymore. Celebrities and professional athletes putting their career (and life) to join the military. That rarely if ever happens anymore. Then again there hasn't been a war worth fighting since WWII. But lets not get into that here.
