Hockey's my other love and would like to see a panthers game but I'm ruining of going in august so that's out of the picture.

 

I like model railroading and if there are any good museums or stores that specialize in the railroad that would be cool. Also thinking of checking out skully's bar , the one on diners drive ins and dives.

 

If you like model railorads, visit this store in Miami. Looks like a dump from the outside but it's a great little shop.

What's Skully's Bar?

I dont know much about it; but it is a bar that was shown in food networks diners, drivins and dives. They showed on the program that the owner cooks fancy bar food. Also serves escargo and scampi wings. Looked good but it has gotten mixed reviews on some of the sites I have looked at. Supposedly they charge you for tap water. That's just what some of the reviews said.

I've been there many times, and always been happy. The food is great, and if you're a drinker, the pours are great. If you go during happy hour, they put out free food as well (various stuff depending on the day)

We try to make it down from Orlando for 2 to 3 series a year, and pretty much everytime we go, we stay at the Holiday Inn Express on 1701 N. University Drive in Plantation. It's about a 30 minute drive from the stadium, but it's a straight shot up University to JRS. The area is close to quite a bit of residential, and is also across the street from a Motorolla office, so I would describe it as family/business traveler-friendly. There are two malls in the immediate vicinity, grocery stores and the like. Plenty of dining. Hotel is clean, safe and one of the most affordable in the area. Plus free hot breakfast. In addition, there's a memorabilia store on the way (though it's never been open when I've tried going, so I can't vouch for how it is).

 

We've also stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in E. Ft. Lauderdale close to the airport. It's only about 4 years old, super clean and nice. good value for the price. Every once in a while, it has a cheaper rate than the University Dr. hotel, which is when we stay there. Access to turnpike is easy, or you can take i-95. Close to Lauderdale Beaches.

 

As far as "what to do there" we generally go specifically for the games and don't do much "other stuff" than go shopping, catch a movie or hang out at the pool. However, we've gone to the Science museum a few times, Seaquarium and such.

Seasons over, so on to a new stadium. Unfortunately I was unable to get down to see a game at Sunlife but I figured I needed to save the money for next years trip to the new stadium. I figured this could help alot of out-of-towners out considering this will be a new adventure for most everyone, going to the new stadium area that is. Here are the questions, I have.

 

------Are there any Hotels within walking distance of the new stadium that are worth staying at? (Brand Names)

I would like to stay somewhere close to the stadium that would either be about a mile walk or a short cab ride away from the hotel. Parking is going to seem to be an issue probably so I would like to avoid that headache. There seems to be a nice little bed and breakfast near the river to the east of the stadium. Kinda pricey at 99 a night but might be worth it.

 

 

----------Is the Stadium neighborhood a place you can walk a mile to and from safely?

I will have the wife with me and obviously i would not like to get mugged.

 

Ill start it off with these questions. If anyone else has anything else to add that I didnt think of, add it. Id like to keep this going considering I know theres quite a few out-of-town fans that will probably make the trip down.
