Ricky had a ton of groundballs in this start, which helped him out a lot. A large percentage (33%) of the flyballs that he did allow ended up going over the fence.

 

So he allowed 6 fly balls. That's not bad for 8 innings.

What impressed me most were the multiple single digit pitch innings. I wish JJ could learn that type of pitch efficiency because that's whats really held him back from being a truly dominant pitcher (when healthy).

 

 

Ricky had two single-digit pitch innings on Saturday. JJ had two on Wednesday.

 

The issue wasn't a lack of single-digit pitch innings. It was two bad innings at the beginning and the fact that Guillen was less willing to stretch him out in his first start.
