November 30, 200322 yr I liked him a lot during his playing days but he can't cut it as a coach. The next Head Coach of Nebraska better not be that Tommie Harris guy From Pitt.
November 30, 200322 yr nebraska is spoiled by tom osborne. solich didnt deserve to be fired. his record is very comparable to solich in his first years there. idiocy by the cornhusker athletic department.
November 30, 200322 yr i remember when just a couple years ago all the big hubbub was about solich and his outstanding game management (similar to what they say about tressel these days). nebraska is basically doing what they wanted to do after last season. i guess they didn't want to "rush" it, so they waited a year. the guy had what, like 3 losses this year? anyways, i don't watch enough nebraska football to tell if he's a good coach or not, but there definitely has been a noticeable decline since osborne left. will this help/hurt them? i don't think it'll have much effect either way. they've still got what matters most: recruiting prestige and wealthy boosters.
November 30, 200322 yr The program was not heading in the right direction. In Solich's early years we still had a good team because they were still Osborne's recruits, and Crouch pretty much carried the team. There has been a decline in talent coming into the program the last couple of years. Yeah, sure a 9-3 record looks nice, but when they played the elite teams, they got blown out. I feel it's a move that had to be made if they want the program to get back to it's elite status.
November 30, 200322 yr there are few coaches out there that are going to magically transform a team into elite status. if the cornhuskers had never won those championships under Osburne they never would of been spoiled like this. 95% of programs would be very happy with almost constant 9 win seasons, top bowl games, and top 25 rankings. But alas....Solich couldnt push them to that next level..... So he takes the fall for it. Personally I dont like it.

Does that mean Stoops should be fired because Oklahoma has not won enough championships and should not settle for being top 5? Does this mean Coker should be fired for not bringing Miami a National Title two years in a row? Should Ron Zook be fired because... Oh wait Bad Example. Nebraska had a special coach and no one is going to be able to bring it back to glory, at least No one they can get.

December 2, 200322 yr Please.... Nebraska fans are spoiled. You are not going to replace Tom Osborne. You have to stop comparing coaches to him and what he did toward the end of his career. The Nebraska faithful need a dose of reality. No coach should ever be fired for leading his team to a 9-3 mark, especially when its an improvement over the previous year.... You people need to realize what you have and stop trying to think about what you dont have. Riduclious. BTW...who picked Solich anyway?

There you go with the 9-3 it's not about the 9-3 recourd it's about the future. This team was going nowhere under Solich.
December 2, 200322 yr and bringing in a new coach ensures that Nebraska will win a national title? No, but Nebraska has a great AD Steve Pederson and I have confidence in him, and it's not necessarily about National Titles, it's about keeping the team from slipping into mediocrity, which is what we were the last 2 years, mediocre. People can say that 9-3 is not a mediocre record, but name me 1 good team Nebraska beat this season.
December 2, 200322 yr i think its more that pederson did not hire solich and wanted to have his own fingerprint on the football program.
December 2, 200322 yr i think its more that pederson did not hire solich and wanted to have his own fingerprint on the football program. You can believe what you want to believe. and he already has his fingerprints on the program he signed Def. Coordinator and now Interim Head Coach Bo Pelini last offseason and our Defense has been much improved.
December 2, 200322 yr Nebraska will not be more than 1 game better next year. I agree with that 100% it's gonna take time.
December 2, 200322 yr Author Farmer did you hear about the player who had to be restrained at the Press Conf.? Pederson might of got his @** beat
December 3, 200322 yr He wins 9 games before the Bowl, and he "can't cut it as a coach??" :guillotine
