Castillo is right up there with Conine in my book as Mr.Marlin. Nice Job on taking less money to stay with the Fish.

He really didn't take less money -- took about the same money. He took a lower figure for his salary but since there is no state income tax in Florida, he comes out even.

But he did take less money that had been reported.

3 years at $5.5 per year was a few columnist's estimate. And many others said that the fourth year option would be at $6 million, not the $5.5M it ended up to be.

Castillo is right up there with Conine in my book as Mr.Marlin.

Conine never had a 35-game hit streak though.

 

I think it's a fair contract, but if he gets his speed back, he was a steal.

Even if he repeats his 2003 numbers he'll be a steal over what Grudz, Walker and Vina bring for what they are demanding.

Very good point.

 

Vina and Grudz are both getting too old, and I never thought much of Walker, I think last year's numbers for Walker were simply a career year, and I don't expect numbers like that again from him anytime soon.

 

If Castillo regains that circa 2002 speed, I like this deal A LOT, and i'm guessing that he will with an off season to get that speed back.
