October 27, 201213 yr Hopefully he'll go beyond the 5th inning next year and possibly see a call up at some point. Exciting prospect none the less.
October 27, 201213 yr Hopefully he'll go beyond the 5th inning next year and possibly see a call up at some point. Exciting prospect none the less. I think that is more likely to be Yelich's timetable. Yelich will start 2013 at AA and is a candidate to be brought to the big club as soon as the All-Star break IMO. It's unclear whether Fernandez will begin 2013 in Jupiter or Jacksonville, but never the less will be in AA at some point next sason. It seems likely Fenandez will finish 2013 in Jacksonville, with a geat shot to make the big club out of spring training (but more likely June-July) 2014.
October 27, 201213 yr Frank Forte replied to me one night on Twitter using the FSMarlins tag saying the reason Fernandez was going just 5 innings was to "protect his arm," which, imo, is a bit of BS, especially when he's got some games where he was just throwing about 60-70 pitches. Either way, he'll definitely be going more than 5 innings next season. They'll probably give him pitch limits rather than innings limits. I say to start the year, first 5-10 starts, top him out at about 85, then afterwards 95, 105, etc. 110-115 in his last 2-3 starts at most.
