Fan Fest 2013

Featured Replies

This is silly, neither PB/Broward nor M-D has turned out consistent or large crowds. Marlins' attendance has been below the NL average 80% of the time. They have drawn 3 million exactly once ('93) and even the new park resulted in only 2.2 million. All other years were below 2 million.

Dumping salary for whatever reason resulted in a 29% decline in attendance in '98 and a 37% decline in attendance in '06, an average decline of 33%. That would imply '13 will be about 1.5 million, slightly below the 20 year average. Back to a crummy gate, but with better revenue (concessions) from those who do show up.

It's gonna take another 20 or 30 years to build a real fan-base -- when the children (and some grand-children) of those who were fans as children during the first 20 years become serious fans.

The good news is that they ain't going anywhere for 40 years, they finally got a stadium built.

By way of contrast, our sibling Colorado Rockies have been below league average only 25% of the time and below 2 million just once. You can't draw very many meaningful conclusions from those simple comparisons, but it is interesting.

Why would anybody buy season tickets unless they're premium seats? Go on stubhub and pay nothing to sit anywhere in the building...

For the 2013 season there will be very few season ticket holders and thus, very few people will be putting up ticket for sale on Stubhub.

Well, to be fair, Mr. Bob, the Broward and PBC fans did push first saying they weren't going to go since the team was now the MIAMI Marlins rather than the FLORIDA Marlins. At least, that's what I remember. Plus the further distance.

Almost every fan I know around here didn't care about the name change. Just happy the team was staying. But that's a pretty good rumor to keep going.

Gotta agree with ya. I've always said it wasn't a county by county thing, it's a South Florida thing. It's one of the reasons I was laughing whenever the Dade fans started with the chest thumping.

That's what some of us have been saying. Surprised some don't understand it.

Bu there is an "on the other hand." Because attendance will be so low, you should be able to buy cheap seats and move where ever you want once the game gets under way.

They won't be $2, I guarantee that.

But then Samson said in a televised interview he didn't care if Broward and PBC fans only went to 5 games a year.

Isn't that about the combined amount Broward and PBC fans went to anyways?

Besides you, of course.

Bro, don't you remember how they filled JRS for years? They are the real fan base.Ah you're right. I'm sorry.

Either you guys don't get it or you just don't get it.

Simple Biz 101.......You don't push any loyal customer base away, no matter how small, just because you move a few miles and concentrate on another customer base that was never loyal anyway. How many times, just on these boards, did we hear Dade residents telling everyone how they were going to show all the other counties how to attend and support a baseball team when this new palace was being built? Well now they have about the same type team that JRS almost always had, but with a far superior ball park. Distorted civic pride and/or machoism be damned, time to put up or shut up.

Who the hell goes to a game to see the ballpark? That's the wine and cheese crowd, not the fans.

Wine and cheese people still pay to get in. People do come just to experience the park. Hopefully they have a good time and come back. The ballpark is worth 2-3 trips down from West Palm Beach next year (love the food).....but the team is not worth the 20-game package I had last year.
