  1. Loria might as well name himself GM....signing Dobbs, hiring Tino, picking which players moving up from AAA. He is Jerry Jones without actually spending money.
  2. Solano has been hot at the plate...but his glove has cost as much.
  3. He has played a hell of a lot better defense than Solano....he's made 2 or 3 stops that Solano would not have made...and NO ERRORS (as of the 8th inning). Plus he went DEEP. Not sayin...just sayin!
  4. Kind of fitting, considering Loria thinks he's George Steinbrenner, except he won't actually spend to win. Yup, signing Delgado in '05 (4 years/52 mill) was a fiction and he didn't actually spend 100 mill last year alone after signing Reyes (6 years/106 mill,) Buehrle (4 years/58 mill) and Bell (3 years/27 mill.) He never did those things. And he never signed Ramirez (6 years/70 mill) or JJ (4 years/39 mill) or Nolasco (3 years, 26.5 mill,) or Buck (3 years/18 mill.) One can argue that various contracts were bad deals or bad ideas, but one cannot argue that 40% of a billion dollars in long-term contracts never were offered and signed. Unless, of course, your sole object is to propagate Loria-hatred via idiotic, false statements. And what percentage of those "commitments" did Loria & Co acutally pay out? Many of those deals (Delgado, Reyes, Buehrle, Ramirez) were heavily backloaded...so their new teams paid out the overwhelming majority of the dollars. Other than Ricky Nolaosco...not a single one of those players has made to the final year of their contract as a Marlin. Don't get me wrong, I get...for the most part...why Loria does what he does. But I don't have to like it...and 95% of the fan base agrees with me.
  5. Oh..and Ruggiano gets traded too
  6. My friend and I were discussing this at Monday's game....the line up on the field today will look nothing like the line up post-trade deadline. Here's what we were thinking.....assuming no injuries. 1B- Lomo 2B- Dietrich SS- Hech 3B- Cox RF- Stanton CF- Yelich LF- Marisnick C- Brantley This assumes Polanco and JP get traded and players like Solano and Dobbs return to bench roles. Also assume that Ricky Nolasco gets traded. Thoughts?
  7. Positives for tonight: Coghlan got 2 hits...and they were both solid 3 runs scored The loaded nachos were spectacular My friend and I scalped tix right behind home plate for $5 each
  8. Polanco is the only one who is hitting!
  9. They overspent last year....then over-corrected this year. If they had put a $70-80 million payroll on the field this year (perhaps by keeping Buerhle and Reyes)....nobody would be complaining about Loria being "cheap"...and I think attendance would be much more respectable. I know for fact that I would have kept my three 20 game plans if nothing else. As for tv ratings...they are going to suck every night against the Heat during what is going to be a historic title rurn for them. No shame in that. Does anyone have a comparison between Heat and non-Heat nights? Also....I can tell you from living near DC for awhile...the Nats used to get TV ratings measured in decimal points (>1.0) only....so the fact that the Marlins are getting 1.4 ratings is not historically bad, all things considered. One of the Marlins other "revenue problems"...they counted on selling naming rights to the ballpark for $10 million a year...plus other sponsorships that did not materialize (If I recall, they only sold 2 of 4 "quadrant" sponsorships). Perhaps major sponsors were smart not to trust this ownership group. My guess is Loria will sell once the sales penalties owed to the county are over....in 2015,

  12. I question letting a no-pop Hech hit with 2 on and 2 out in the 9th when you have a power hitter (Miguel Olivo) available on the bench. That was about the only fault I could see with Redmond. Otherwise, this team can't hit. Glad to see Slowey doing well though...I liked him when he was a Twin. I'm sure Olivo would've struck out on 3 pitches. I'm so happy he didn't get a chance to hit. Hopefully he never hits again. Or plays again. He sucks so much, and only makes this team less likable. The Marlins should've at least brought in players who didn't suck their first time here. Like Juan Pierre. He sucks now, but at least he was here in 2003 so fun memories. Hech struck out and looked completely overmatched by Kimbrel. Olivo probably would have struck out too...but there would have at least been the hope/chance that he could run into a pitch and hit it out. I thought the reason they brought up Skipworth was to be able to use Olivo as a bat off the bench.....if not 2 outs/2 on/down 2-0 in the 9th...when else are you going to use him?

  14. Granted this team is not going to win a ton of games....but the starting pitching, so far, has been good enough to win just about every game...and there was enough offense to hand the bullpen leads all three games against the Mets.....so what can be done about the 'pen? Closer needs to close games he gets and not allow those baserunners. Middle relievers cannot keep giving up long balls.
  15. announced: 34,500 or so real: 22,000
  16. The problem is not that the team lost 2 games to start the season against 2 really solid pitchers. In fact, if anything, I am pleasantly surprised by how good the Marlins pitching has been against a potent Nats lineup. The problem is 7 hits in 2 days, zero runs, and the absolute squandering of the few opportunities to score runs that have been there. You can also tell that Stanton is pressing...first pitch swinging at almost everything. Can we please bat Polanco 2nd, like he should be, and either put Ruggiano 4th or whomever is catching (Brantley/Olivo)?
  17. Slowey's getting hit kinda hard...but fortunately, so far, it's mostly at teammates. Hope it keeps up and we can see the Marlins first run of the season.
  18. I did not get to watch the game on my DVR until this morning. While the lack of offense was disturbing...there were a few positive signs overall. We saw "Good Ricky"....hopefully we get "Good Ricky" most of the time every 5 days. The bullpen was also solid. JP had really good at bats and will be the strongest leadoff hitter we've had since...well...JP. No errors...and I like Kotchman's D at first base....might save a few runs. Won't be facing Strasberg every day!
  19. Any chance that this is related to Ruggiano's ST injury and maybe using him as a PH for a a few days?
  20. This could actually speed up Ricky Nolasco being traded....Eovaldi and Alvarez come back by late April, Fernandez pitches well....bye bye Ricky.
  21. I don't think there is any way Ruggiano hits 25 HR's. The rest of the predictions, taken individually, are not all that outrageous. However...as last year proved, you can't rely on everybody on your roster hitting their career avg or their "potential". 75 wins is within the realm of possibiity...i'm thinking 70-92. I also think Jacob Turner will be starting again nol later than June 1st....either because Ricky got traded or they move LeBlanc or Slowey to the bullpen. It would be interesting to see what management does if the team is hovering near .500 in early June.
  22. Apparently the entire Astros roster will make less than A-rod this year....and their on field payroll will be $19 million (they are also paying $6 million to Pittsburgh as part of a trade). http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/9109596/alex-rodriguez-make-more-houston-astros-combined-salary
  23. This will lock on April 1 at first pitch. You can edit it as much as you like up until that point. Predict the first Marlin to do the following: Single - Polanco Double - Stanton Triple - Pierre HR - Stanton RBI - Brantley Run Scored - Polanco Stolen Base - Pierre Caught Stealing - Pierre Error - Polanco Win - Nolasco wins on Opening Day (one of 4 "Good Ricky" starts this year)
  24. I will be more than mildly suprised if Turner is not back up with the team by early May. Hopefully he'll get things straightened out with a couple of starts in New Orleans. I do not mind someone like Slowey as our #5 starter. He was pretty damn good with the Twins and if healthy, he will keep our bullpen from being too overworked. We pretty much know what we're getting from Ricky.
