Chris Coghlan is the Opening Day CF'er

I bet Yelich > Coghlan right now.

They had no problem calling up Fernandez; they should just do the same with Yelich. I was against it in ST, but it's not as if the FO has a plan or anything.

According to JCR, Yelich is dealing with plantar fasciitis.

I wonder if they would have let him play on Opening Day had that not been the case.

Ok... I'm a Coghlan fan and I don't even agree with this move. But once again I hope he shuts us all up.

This is a matter of matching up coghlan against the righty starter, Ruggiano will be in there Wednesday against gio. If the nats had Gio for game 1 and Stras for game 2 this thread wouldn't exist, it's not a big deal.

The thread exists because it means they're platooning Ruggiano for some unknown reason even though his numbers against righties are still far superior than coghlan's.

Why would they platoon Ruggiano?? He should be a steady force in his lineup to provide at least some power.

Can't believe Coghlan will get the majority of the starts -_-

It's insane. The front office is a buncha yokels.

Edit: I guess Coghlan did rake righties last year to the tune of .451 OPS. Nevermind FO, keep up the good work.

Any chance that this is related to Ruggiano's ST injury and maybe using him as a PH for a a few days?

I think I'm going to join poptart and become a cubs fan.

Have fun with that.

Part of the reason why the thread was made is to point out that it's a platoon.

They'll have 15 more wins than the fish. Sounds fun to me

There's no way the Marlins are winning 50.

There's no way the Marlins are winning 50 before the all-star break.

Coghlan's decent spring isn't enough to negate the fact that he's botched every opportunity to play in the big leagues from 2010 to the present.

This FO is dumb. Ruggiano deserves a shot to prove that he can be an everyday player before Coghlan does.

Technically they're both getting a shot, and I'm ok with that. They've both had success, lets see what happens...

Coghlan hasn't had success since 2009. Ruggiano played well enough last season that he should be given an opportunity to play everyday.

In other words, Coghlan's spring shouldn't be enough to demote Ruggiano into a platoon role.

I think the arguement is he's never been given a chance to play healthy and get consistent at bats ever since. It's not a bad idea to give him one last shot and see what you have...
