April 18, 201313 yr Heck, I was bored. I got to wondering what would be our 25 if certain 2012/13 trades didn't happen. So I picked what I thought it would be. Then I got to think how that 25 has faired so far this season against our current 25. So I compared AVG for hitters and ERA for arms. Then awarded each comparison a W/L or T. Here are my results: 1B G Sanchez .174 V .000 C Kotchman L 2B O Infante .271 v .220 D Solano L 3B H Ramirez .257 v .327 P Polanco W SS J Reyes .395 v .184 A Hechavarria L LF J Pierre .207 v .207 J Pierre T CF E Bonifacio .200 v .234 J Ruggiano W RF G Stanton .167 v .167 G Stanton T C J Buck .326 v .205 R Brantly L OF A Kearns .133 v .133 A Kearns T OF J Ruggiano .234 v .111 C Coghan L IF G Dobbs .261 v .261 G Dobbs T IF P Polanco .327 v .313 C Valaika T C R Brantly .205 v .111 M Olivo L P J Johnson 6.91 v 3.86 R Nolasco W P M Buerhle 7.31 v 2.04 K Slowey W P R Nolasco 3.86 v 4.24 A Sanabia L P A Sanchez 1.42 v 6.75 W LeBlanc L P J Turner --- v 0.82 J Fernandez W RP E Mujica 1.80 v 5.40 C Qualls L RP M Dunn 2.45 v 2.45 M Dunn T RP R Choate 3.86 v 4.15 A J Ramos L RP R Webb 4.70 v 4.70 R Webb T RP C Gaudin 0.87 v 5.40 J Rauch L RP W LeBlanc 6.75 v 6.75 J Maine T CL S Cishek 6.75 v 6.75 S Cishek T So, we win 5 (Polanco, Ruggiano, Nolasco, Slowey and Fernandez), tie 8 and lose on 11. The starters all look good except LeBlanc v Anibal Sanchez. And I so wished we could have kept Mujica, Choate and Gaudin. I may revisit this in future unless it becomes too depressing.
April 18, 201313 yr Made no sense.. you cant expect to have Infante and Sanchez and also Brantly and Turner
April 19, 201313 yr This really doesn't make much sense to me. Especially comparing batting averages. You have Polanco over Hanley but clearly Hanley is the superior player. Also you forgot to include Logan Morrison and the fact that guys got injured last season. Not saying our team last year healthy is world series bound but I'd take the overpaid underachievers from last season over the scrub squad we have now any day and it's not even close
April 19, 201313 yr Yeah, I don't understand this, either. Why use batting average? I don't think you are assigning players to positions accurately. Is Kotchman really the Marlins' first baseman? Hanley hasn't played a game yet and Reyes is hurt for quite awhile.
April 19, 201313 yr Author Yeah, I don't understand this, either. Why use batting average? I don't think you are assigning players to positions accurately. Is Kotchman really the Marlins' first baseman? Hanley hasn't played a game yet and Reyes is hurt for quite awhile. As I said, it was just a bit of fun and I was bored. No one needs stats to prove we suck even worse than last year's suckiness. Please disregard. The only two positives so far this season are Fernandez (being on the team) and Hernandez (not being on the team).
