IDK ... I get that Garza is the best pitcher on the market right now, but I think Texas is overpaying. Edwards has amazing stats down in A ball, and Olt could always turn back into what the Rangers had hoped.

Mike Olt is already turning it around. .883 OPS in June and .813 OPS in July. Really nice trade for Chicago.

Obviously the Rangers anticipate being able to re-sign him (and he's going to be super expensive).

 

Great deal for the Cubs. Grimm should improve moving to the National League, Mike Olt should be the team's starting third baseman very soon, and CJ Edwards has been a surprising success since being drafted in the 48th round in '11. Cubs got two immediate contributors and one possible future starter for a guy who they had no plans on re-signing anyway.

Texas is in the enviable position of being able to do stuff like this.

Stupid Texas and their stupid good scouts and their stupid front office who draft stupid good players.

Makes me think the Marlins could have gotten a better package for Nolasco if they werent so eager to needlessly shed payroll.

It makes me think about question how we couldn't even poach Mike Olt for JJ back when JJ was still pitching at an All Star level.

I am generally not too upset when trades with Texas fail to materialize.
